I have homework and i have searched everywhere for a definition of what they actually do but i can only find sites that i can buy them from...... please help!!!!

Its just like a regular square, except it is alot more precise.

A regular square, such as those used by carpenters, etc., are just 90 degree or L looking things that give you straight lines, and measure lengths for cutting, or just to know how long something is or isn't.

I would wager that it is a typical square but with the units divided into tenths.
