I like the suggestion about large photos of you and your friends. Nothing adds personality to a room like yourself!! Shelves would be another suggestion displaying what you love to collect. For period pieces consider lava lamps. It would be fun and you can find them at flea markets, garage sales, etc... They are not that pricey....
Most of all make it fun!!
