Meat can stay frozen in the freezer forever,
as long as the freezer stays working.

The USDA says that "freezing keeps food safe almost indefinitely".

If you wrap foods very well they will be safe to eat.
If you see freezer burn you can cut that portion off (which is still safe to eat but just does not taste as good).

Package and freezer type makes all the difference. Freezer paper works best and will keep meat from freezer burn longest. I have only gone for a year, but I'm sure it lasts longer. Same with vacuum seal packages I get from Omaha Steaks. Store package is the worst. Zipper bags work well if you get the air out. Plastic containers are very poor, too much air inside. A freezer that is frost free does not work as well a non frost free one. Even if you keep it too long, it won't hurt you it just becomes freezer burned and tastes bad.

Since you have had the meat in teh freezer for a few months, there is nothing wrong with the meet. Because your meets bad taste you did not store it properly causing your meet to have freezer burn. Freezer Burn does give food an odd taste. As for as health you can eat the meat. I just won't taste as good as if you had cooked the meat when it was fresh.

it can stay frozen as long as freezer is working hehhehehe...I would not go more than a year personally it's not a matter of meat going bad, it is the freezer taste and if it was properly wrapped when placed in.

I would not eat meat from the freezer after about 6-7 months. It gets freezer burned and tastes nasty.

If you invest in a good quality food sealer (Food Saver..Stay away from the Black & Decker one) you can keep it up to 2 years without freezer burn if it seals properly.
