His kennel is his comfy zone, he is probably using it for security and to calm himself down. I wouldn't take it away. My dog is 4 and still uses his kennel.

A kennel is MEANT to be a safe haven for a dog as well as a training tool. You are takign away the place he feels safe. Why the hell would you take it away? The reason to crate train is to keep your dog contained and out of trouble while you are gone, and to provide a place that is only his for him to feel safe in. IT IS NOT A SECURITY BLANKET, in that we think of security blankets as bad things. It is his, you gave it to him and of course he cannot understand why you are taking it away. It's like you're undoing all the training you did. Where did you get the idea that you take the kennel away at some point? I can help. Don't take the kennel away and he'll be fine. If your other dog has a preference that's fine, but you're only confusing and upsetting the poor dog for no reason but your own messed up reasoning.

I would leave his kennel up. He may not ever be ready to not have it. I keep my dogs kenneled when I am not home. I feel more secure that they are not getting into trouble and they love their kennels. It is a safe place for them.

I doubt your dog is "addicted" to his kennel. He actually has got the right idea : his crate is his safe place to hang out. Let him have his kennel so that he's happy and you don't have to keep replacing your furniture, and please take a dog training class so that you can better understand your dog.

dogs that use kennels tend to feel secure in them and will use them. if he likes the kennel just leave it up for him. ask your vet what to do as I would leave well enough alone
