Best thing to do is to not get a new puppy EVER while you live in the same house. Adult dogs that have been properly vaccinated are fine to bring into your home though, so consider giving one of the adult dogs at your local shelter a second chance:) The virus can stay in the ground for 10 years or so...research is still being done on that. I have a friend who fosters puppies, and she just had 2 with parvo and the shelter said she can't foster puppies for 6 months. She said 6 months really isn't long enough to wait, so she's moving to a new house so she can foster again without the threat of parvo. Though some people might tell you to do so, bleaching the yard/outside will not really work. You can bleach non-porous surfaces to get rid of the virus there, though.

I had to put my puppy to sleep just two weeks ago, so I know how you feel I'm still grieving over her. I only had her for nine days. But to answer your question, the vet told us that we didn't need to bring another puppy into the house for at least a year to two years, because the virus is still in the house even though we did clean. It is also in the yard where she used the bathroom. But however we can have a dog that is two years old and older as long as it has had all of it's shots including the parvo. We have a two year old cockapoo that we have had since he was eight weeks old and because he has had all his shots he is perfectly fine. I hope this will help you. If I was going to get another puppy I won't get one for at least a year and a half to two years, because I don't want to take the chance of it getting the parvo from my yard or the house.I'm thinking about getting another dog that is two years or older. Good Luck!

it needs to be at least 6 mo to a 1 year and you need to throw away any thing the the other puppy was near on used. you need to bleach the outside if the puppie went outside. so in it will be a while before you can get a new puppie.

You need to ask a vet about this. I know when they have parvo outside in a kennel you have to spray the ground with clorox and wait a year.
