As I read your question as listed, my first thought was "maybe he is diabetic". Then I opened your question to see he is diabetic. Obviously he should consult his doctor, but what you are describing sounds like the neuropathy associated with diabetes.

hi. Does your husband also get shooting or tingling pains in his hands or wrist or arm ? if so it could be that he is suffering CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME. Carpal tunnel syndrome involves the median nerve as it crosses the wrist. Here, it passes through a tunnel, formed by the ligaments of the wrist and tendons. Frequently, the ligaments will enlarge, for a variety of causes or for no known cause at all. These thickened ligaments will then compress and damage the median nerve. Symptoms appear usually in the thumb, index and middle finger and the hand. The causes of carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by external pressure on the nerves at the wrist. This pressure is caused by thickened or swollen ligaments and tendons that form the carpal tunnel. Wrist fractures can also lead to similar symptoms. the symptoms of this are tingling or numbness in part of the hand, It most commonly involves the thumb, index and middle fingers. Sharp pains may shoot up the arm from the wrist. Hand, wrist or arm pain may awaken the person at night. Tingling and numbness of the hand may also be noted, particularly after sleeping for a while. Morning stiffness, cramping of the hands and weakness may be noted. He may notice that he frequently drop objects from his hands. The skin over the palm and fingers may appear dry and thickened.

Could be diabetes. Have it checked.

Could be work related. Like carpal tunnel.

Could be a circulation problem. Drink grape juice daily for a few weeks. The enzymes clear out the blood veins and capillaries.

He may have a pinched nerve in his arm due to the type of work he does, that is causing the numbness in his finger tips. My best suggestion is for him to go to the doctor. Hope all goes well.
