Well, that Hale-Bopp comet cult wasn't that great since its leader encouraged his followers to kill themselves. Also, the cult that followed Jim Jones couldn't have been that great either.

IMHO yes - a religion that injures yourself or others is "bad". Suicide cults such as Heaven's Gate and Jonestown come to mind. Also, "religions" that use cult techniques to control their members, removing any ability to decide for themselves whether or not they want to follow it, are bad. The Branch Davidians in Waco, for example.

A common theme with religion is, you have to belief. Asking questions and being critical and logical is not permitted. Religion is static no matter what science discoverers, religion stays within their dogma.
On the other hand Atheism incur ages inquisitive and skeptical minds. When new knowledge is found it is used and not rejected. Atheism is fact based not "belief" based.
This leads to the conclusion all religion is bad, the degree may differ but bad is bad.

There are some really bad cults out there that have caused harm/death to it's members. Some examples are Jonestown, Heavens Gate, The Branch Dividians, and Scientology (Google Lisa McPherson, and you'll get more info).

Is there such a thing as a 'GOOD' religion?
Show me just one -
that has not created 'rules' to manipulate and control humans' behaviors. . .?
Good or bad - I believe that:
humans are on this planet to exercise free will -
Sometimes these (their) choices garner fair and just consequences,
Sometimes they don't. . .
Religion does not dictate the person's choice - only influences - and we have many years of 'history' to show just what some of these 'influences' have wrought.. .
in short . . .
Cancel the human construct called god, and it's subsequent 'groupie' creation - called organized religion, that teaches us we are damaged goods, when arriving in this life, and must expend all our energies to find and embrace 'salvation' . . . to merit some 'promised' and earned after-life. Perhaps then? mankind will wake up to realize that he, himself is fully responsible for his choices and actions, the results of which have nothing to do with some imagined/fabricated life, beyond the here and now!!!
Peace and lite, to you all . . .

Religion helped to organize social groups and enforce rules by ensure that people feared the afterlife....
But the religions at that point were kept little geographical ranges.. now they've expanded and have to mesh together.. so while religion helped start human culture their incompatabilities will eventually cause humans to destroy each other.
So all religion is now bad.

No, I believe that it is PEOPLE who are bad, not religion. I don't agree with Catholicism and Mormonism for various reasons, but that does not mean they are BAD, they simply have beliefs I have issues with. I don't condemn any religion or its followers. It's none of my business what kind of relationship people have with God. Peace.

Of course; any religion that, ooh, off the top of my head:
* prevents people from seeking answers to scientific question
* makes people murder others
* makes people try to deny others freedom (say, to marry)
* uses threats of torture to gain new converts
etc...
Or generally speaking: religion that has a negative effect on believers and others.

any religion which holds religious dogma as its leading principles and not the spirit of Gods guidance as being the true and right way of spiritual existence.is a Bad religion. but remember that Bad actions or iron shackles and good actions or golden chains. they both hold one to this worldly existence.being attached to this world is not the way to go. be in the world .but not of it .It says that in the bible.Within The Wonderful Guidance of the Holy Spirit of God is where I find real truth and knowledge and wisdom . and the spirit will lead me to heaven when I pass on from this world, Praise God.when I see people hate and kill in the name of their religion, it actually makes me sick to my stomach.I will be very glad to do home. when I pass on from this world,That's for sure.Peace. Please pray for Peace in the world, that others will accept the spirit of God into their life's and be guided by it

All religions are bad. Religions divide people. if you live your life with integrity, you will never need religion.
religion is for unethical people. There is no truth to any religion.
Religions are just beliefs. like Santa clause, the tooth fairy.
Also another reason way religions are unethical is that they do not pay their fair share of taxes. if they were truly ethical and had even an once of integrity they would want to and insist on paying taxes to help like any common citizen. religions are the worst kind of fascist capitalist war mongers. Totally eliminate religion. and we will have peace on earth.
