My last dog was a five yrs old from the pound and he lived for over ten years before he passed. He had his own set of problems, but i loved him. So after a couple of years i decided to get a puppy 4months old now because everyone said i would be better off with the training!! she was a outside dog at her original home and when i brought her here she was able to stay inside and we got the potty traing ok but she has a terrible!! fear about me being gone to work and being outside on a nice day..How do i make her feel safe and also feel like she needs to stay in her own yard? she does get out after i sit and look for ways that she might do it, she finds a place somehow and i have all her toys and things out to help her. Also any tips on how to establish where she can go in the yard and how to keep them out of your flower beds. thanks i feel like a new mom and im thinking ahhhh i wantt to do this right but im so out of my element.

just want to say..my yard is nicely fenced in and tucked in the back of our neighborhood. She is just left alone over 5hrs total and completly safe. We live in a quiet neighborhood and far off the street..Im only doing the outside thing until she gets the potty thing down and i can trust her to go in & out the doggie door, you know not sure what she'll do in the houses alone at this time!!

when i first got my 2 boys they would follow me around, and at the time i didnt trust them in the house alone when i went to work, so all i did was, made them a big dog house outside threw some toys in and threw some treats around the yard and locked them out of the house and went to work :), i still lock em out side and they dont mind my house is on an 1 acre lot, so they like it outside were they can run. you should just leave some toys and treats out for her.

If the dog is allowed to roam the yard loose and unattended, the yard should be fenced in. Without boundaries and supervision, you run the risk of her roaming too far off in the wrong direction, into a hostile neighbor's yard, or into traffic.

I got the impression that you leave her outside all day while you're at work. Personally, I don't think it's a very good idea. She's defenseless against strangers who may know she's alone and accessible all day, especially if the yard is not fenced in.

What worked for your last dog does not work for this one. Get a crate for this dog so that she can be safe in your home, and look at some info to help with the transition. Separation anxiety is a common problem - there are a number of ways to solve it that won't punish the dog, but teach her that your going away is OK.

Leave a towel or something with your scent on it. What about making a mud play area for her.

Try fencing off the area you don't want her to go.
