What do you think about this one?
I went to get my paintings at Bar room Bar, a pub where I had been exhibiting for the last couple of months. The supervisor was in, he appologised for the fact that a couple of paintings were damaged. When I saw them it looked like someone had been punching on them, I was annoyed but it's expected at that sort of place plus I should have insured them so I take some blame for the loss.

There was one painting missing, he told me couldn't find it anywhere and if I could come back another time, so I asked him to call the manager for some help because I paid for a cab to pick them all up then.
He called the manager who instructed him to look everywhere so I waited for about 15 minutes while he did so, came back to me empty handed at which point I sternly asked him to put it in writting and sign because that painting is £150 and I can't afford to mess about. He came back within less than a minute with the painting... What's your veredict?

Sounds like some shady characters. I think you should learn everything from this lesson that you can.

You cant afford, as an artist, to have your work damaged, stolen, lost...anything. If you leave it in someone elses hands, you should have it insured or the person should be bonded. There should be some kind of contract between you and the person showing/holding your art, that says if they damage it, they will buy it for what its selling for or a portion of the sale price.

I think these people are shady and you shouldn't deal with them again.

1. They attempted to steal it.
2. They may be responsible for some of the damage to the paintings but we can't be sure.
3. I suggest that the next time you exhibit someplace that you get the paintings insured and have a contract in which the persons who are showing htem for you will pay if there is any damage.
4. Never exhibit in such a place again.
5. I do hope that the punching those paintings tooks has somehow made them a little more artistic and maybe valuable. If not, I hope that you are able to do some repair for the sale.

Good luck.

My verdict is for you to find some other place to sell your paintings.
