We have had a stray cat in at the re-homing centre where I work, but we are having trouble identifying its breed. Initially we thought it was a Ragdoll but now we're not sure if it is a Birman. She is chocolate colour point and has the white mitted feet of a Birman but then some Ragdolls have gloves to, but she doesn't have a floppyness or body length of a Ragdoll cat. Can any one help with any other ways we could try and identify her apart from markings?

How about going on weight? Male Birmans generally weigh between 8-12 lbs (females slightly less) whereas Ragdolls weigh between 15-20lbs (females starting around 15 & but males can be up to 30!)

The other distinguishing feature could possibly be the eyes. On a lot of websites the eyes of Ragdolls are of a less intense blue than the eyes of Birman. Ragdolls eyes are said to be oval whereas Birman eyes are more round.

Apart from the weight & possibly the eyes, I haven't a clue - sorry. Could you not contact a local breeder of either Ragdolls or Birman & see if they'll come in & have a look at her?

I'm sure she's gorgeous though & that you won't have too many problems finding a home for her, irrespective of what she is.

Ragdolls r large, have long silky hair, with oval blue eyes. they r light coloured with dark siamese type points on face, legs, ears and tail.

Birmans hair r semi long, have long silky hair and 4 pure white feet.

Hope that helped!!
