Conversations are my area of expertise so I think I can help you with this. The key to keeping a conversation going is to be likeable. If you are likeable such as being funny, showing that you are genuinely caring person, intelligent, openminded people are more likely to approach you. Conversations go a lot more smoothly if you are the one being approach than if you are the one doing the approaching. Approaching, going up to someone and just trying to start a conversation with someone who may not be so interested in so is not so great an idea. You have to choose your targets, and that could be done by having your targets go to you. Lastly, ask for help. People like to be helpful. Even people are do not like to talk much likes this!
