Actually, I think the fallacy of assumption is that a person who doesn't believe hasn't read the bible.

They keep saying "read the bible" like it means something while ignoring the fact that most Atheists were once Christians and those Atheists tend to understand many more religions in better ways than Christians and have read the bible many times.

Christians prefer to think that an Atheist is ignorant rather than accept that its they themselves that are ignorant.

Some Christians are truly moved by the words of the Bible, and humans have a tendency to believe that whatever is moving to them will be moving to others. I have a book that changed my life, and I feel that everyone should read it because it could help them. It's not the Bible, but it's the same idea.

The problem is when people forget that everyone is different, and what moves one person may not move another.

For those who actually think that......and I am not one of them.

It is based on emotion and not proving to themselves that the Bible is true first and foremost.

For anyone, even myself, although raised in a 'religious family' when it came time for me to find out for myself I had to prove the trueness of the Holy Scriptures to myself. So, it doesn't really matter what someone says to you about such and such or so and so it is the deeper digging that a person does themselves.

It is as Paul stated:

"And quit being fashioned after this system of things, but be transformed by making YOUR mind over, that YOU may prove to yourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
-Romans 12:2

For those others that are saying "just believe it" or "just read it" those are the ones that sincere truth seekers need to stay away from.

We don't assume any of the such. We know that God has made us into believers by way of the Holy Spirit. We know how lost we were and what God did for us through His son, Jesus. We know of the amazing grace that was extended to us.We now love because He first loved us. We know we did nothing to deserve what Christ did for us. We knew what awful lives we lived, lost and stumbling in darkness before we learned about our Lord.We tried to make some meaning of our lives. When we first seen the light of God's salvation that took us from bondage and saved us, we are filled with awe. The Bible says,"Whom the son sets free is free indeed! We have a peace and joy that surpasses all human understanding. We want to share that with those who have not experienced it and are in darkness. It is God's Holy Spirit that draws those close who want to know Him. Reading the Bible is a guide for our lives after we have been drawn to God through Christ. It is so easy to be "born again" and receive Christ. Just admit your need for salvation and be sorry for your sins, acknowledge what Christ did for you, (took your place, took your punishment for sin) and ask Jesus to come and live in your heart! Salvation is not just for some, for Christ died so that all men could be reconciled to God. You are now washed clean in the blood of the Lamb! God bless you!

Oh, if only it were that easy.

Probably the same reason why SOME atheists are under the impression that if we read 'The God Delusion' that we'll all convert to atheism. It's the whole, "this book is my proof" thing. Not going to work, either way.

Human beings are created to know God. He instilled in us a thirst that will not be satisfied until we reach out to Him for companionship and love.
If a non Christian is reading the Bible, it usually means that God is working in them to make them start serching for him. And like Jesus said, "If you search for me, you will find me." It only takes a single seed of truth to start a true faith in God.

Are you making an assumption about them or have you read the bible and started feeling something like hope yourself?

I don't. It has more to do with the Holy Spirit.
Reading the Bible is just a start.

I don't know. Nothing in any religion makes sense.

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. Religion is a very awesome mazemaker, in this situation.
