ok so since last saturday i've been sick and out of no where my left ear drum plugged up and it started to pain really badly. after a half hour or so it was feeling better and it unplugged. then few mimnutes later the right ear drum started to hurt and began to plug. after i fell asleep and woke up. the pain was gone and my ear was still plugged. so i tried everthing to unplug it. drink water, chew gum, swallow, and plug my nose and breath out. and its been plugged for a week now. its really starting to bug me because i can't hear that well out of that ear now since its plugged.

is there anything i can do?
should i go to the doctor?

Hi; I'm an Audiologist.

If there is little pain, a plugged sensation and muffled hearing, it will likely resolve along with the head cold. But if they don't, then go to your doctor.

If you have a fever, if the pain is sharp and continuous, if your hearing feels really blocked, if you have loud ringing tinnitus, and/or spinning dizziness, get to a doctor ASAP.

Well, if you don't have a wax buildup, there is a chance that you could have some fluid built up behind the eardrum, which is usually caused by coughing. This is easily remedied by taking a antihistamine, like Sudafed...which should dry up any fluid behind the ear drum. If you do have a wax buildup, or the beginnings of any infection...whether it be outer or inner ear, then you'll need to see a doctor. Best of luck to you.

I'd go to the doctor..it's been a week. Maybe you have an ear infection or something else is wrong.
