seems Fundy Christians just can not empathize with having someone aggressively shoving religion at them. i suppose it's because Christians sit atop the American social food chain and aren't truly challenged by opposing points of view. when a Fundy Christian does encounter opposition they imagine that it's their god that is offensive to the nonChristian when it's simply they that are being offensive. but Fundy Christians have a problem differentiating between their god and themselves. if they're offended they believe that their god is offended. to offend a Fundy is to offend "God". such is the extreme egotism of the Fundy Christian. and this tendency to be easily offended by varied view points is then projected away from the Fundy and onto any convenient nonChristian.

I actually have continuously felt an identical way and performance puzzled why such a great number of human beings ought to take Christianity, or the different "cutting-edge" faith as authentic, even as jointly conserving the Greek and Roman gods are mythology. Religions, jointly with Greek mythology, were all created so guy may have solutions to the unknowns.....why is there lightning contained in the sky? why do plagues happen? , etc. the reply is continuously some god is angered. it is the conventional stuff being recycled to in effective condition what someone should be authentic.

Thank you for finally clarifying that SOME Christians are guilty of the example in your post. Not all. To say anything other than that would be a stereotype, wouldn't it?

I'm a Christian, but I respect the opposing beliefs of others. But, please don't put it like Christians are the only people offending others. I see atheists bashing Christians here all the time. It just goes back and forth. I think we all need to learn tolerance and respect for the opinions of others.

It isn't an offense to us, but it is often taken as offense when people do not believe or openly question the credibility of arguments presented in favour of faith. An offense to rational thought, perhaps... but not a personal attack...

But we must remember that we have, as a society, been indoctrinated from early life that we must take religion at face value and not question the validity of its doctrines.

We all have a choice whether or not to challenge the information with which we are presented in adult life, but in our formative years we do not have that luxury.

Anyway, we are often too quick to claim offense or to be offended, we must all learn to respect another's ideas or beliefs, to some point. But we cannot presume to hold an opinion that our beliefs are in anyway superior to another's, for they are often subjective. If I cannot understand why some do not question their faith and accept blindly logically flawed arguments then please do not take offense, in the same way I will not be offended if they continue to do so.

Why? Because they are convinced that they have the "truth" in their back pocket and that anyone who criticizes that "truth" or their application of it is obviously "deluded".

They also like to cling to the myth that there is some deep-down "inner awareness" of God that all people have and that anyone who isn't a Christian is obviously in denial. It's a long-ago conceit that was used as an excuse by "explorers" to mistreat any non-Christians they came across.

You will find people that offend you in any organized religion, or sport for that matter.
As a Christian preacher, writer and Evangelist I may not agree with your assessment of things I do however defend your right to believe what you chose.
That's why it's called by faith though as I believe in something that I only know as fact in my heart.

I too was glad to see that "some" in the final sentence. Lots of Christians believe that we can learn real truths from atheists as well as from people of other religious persuasions.

Because they don't get that the Christians are the problem, not the religion.

What offends me is people telling me that I am going to burn in hell because I am a sinner. "God" does not offend me.
