Cardio is the best way. Low impact ones cause the least strain, such as swimming or biking.

Do sets of short sprints (whether running, biking, swimming, etc) with a slow recovery period of jogging or an equivalent between each sprint.

Another way that works very well is Kick-Boxing. I did that for a long time, and it worked so well. It made me lose weight while firming up the muscles at the same time.

Join a gym. They usually offer many classes for free with a basic membership. Many people are huge fans of Spinning.

You've probably heard that diet and exercise go together in losing weight. Without exercise, you can lose a little weight if you're really overweight just by not eating all the extra calories you don't need. But if you're not really badly overweight you will have to starve yourself until your body begins to cannibalize itself, and that's really not good for you. I was never an exercising kind of person myself. But about 5 years ago I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (and I wasn't really overweight either, I was in the 'yellow zone' on the height/weight chart). The doctor told me I HAD to get some exercise or I could get some terrible 'complications' like blindness, gangrene in my feet, kidney failure, terrible stuff like that. I told him I wasn't an exercising type of person. He said 'Why not just go for a walk? Just get lost in the neighborhood for half an hour'. So I tried it and, believe it or not (the old Me wouldn't have believed it) I really got into walking. I got a pedometer and an MP3 player and within a few months I was up to 3 miles a day, in about 45 min. (not every day, maybe five times a week). I actually look forward to my walks, waiting to hear the next chapter in the audiobook. I lost 25 lbs, then I slacked off and gained back 5 lbs, but I am out of the yellow zone, I'm at the top of the green zone. If I did it, the world's laziest person, you can do it. You just have to get off your big fat butt. Even just half an hour a day of walking can help considerably, you'll see the results right away (maybe two or three weeks).

Sigh - the best exercise is the one where you take both hands and push away from the table. Limiting food intake is the best way to lose weight.

Second best exercise for losing weight is walking - walking as far as you can away from your home, walk until you are tired, then rest, and then walk home. If you live on top of a hill or a mountain then the time spent returning home is even more of a weight reducer than walking down the hill.

Third best exercise for losing weight - go fill a glass and drink a glass of water each and every time you feel hunger. Sometimes hunger is merely dehydration.

Fouth best exercise for losing weight? Laughter! Find a friend who shares your sense of humor and who also needs to drink more water, walk a little farther, and who also needs a partner to combat weight gain. And .... if your friend is up for it ......I recommend the......

Fifth best exercise? DANCING - find a friend and go out and dance, dance, dance! Doesn't matter if it is Swing, Rock n' Roll, HipHop, Country & Western, Classic Ballroom, or Latino. Dancing is fun, amusing, and works every part of your body.

Any and all exercising is good...but here are a few pointers.

Cardio will fat burn. Be sure to keep it moderate though. When doing cardio, you can burn fat and you can burn energy (carbs). There is bound to be a website with the chart I see on my fitness center's wall...for me being 35, it says my optimal fat burn heart rate is about 145.

But also consider doing some weights. By having additional muscle on your body, not only will it look better when you do lose the weight, but you will burn more calories in your everyday life (sitting around, sleeping etc.) because muscle burns more calories than fat.

A combination of resistance training and cardio is supposed to be helpful. Keeping your heart rate up in your ideal range (which depends on your age/weight) helps burn more calories. Exercising before you eat breakfast also boots your metabolism for the day. Just keep in mind, while you can do cardio every day, anything that works the muscles is better to do every other day, because what you're actually doing is ripping the muscles, and when your body repairs them that's what makes them stronger and burns fat and calories. If you work them again before your body has repaired them, you're actually gonna make them weaker and not get the most out of your workout.

don't listen to the skinny people!
I've been trying to find some exercises too
but to lose weight you MUST burn calories
meaning you must increase your heart rate by doing cardio
ANYTHING that makes you heart beat faster [walking, running on the treadmill..yes, even jumping jacks]

if you want to tone up, then you do calisthenics type exercises like situps and all that

but to burn calories and make yourself healthier...try the treadmill for a while and see if you can stick with that!

Any exercise will burn calorie. Running and swimming are also very good to reduce fat quickly. Don't give too much emphasis on dieting, if you are running or swimming.
Also be patient, don't try too hard to lose weight too quickly. Take it easy.

Just brisk walking will do the trick, if you do it for about 15-20 minutes straight, and about 4-5 timnes a week. Others exercises are running, jogging, bicycling, swimming, and just about anything to get your body moving and burn those calories.

Your mid section and leg exercises burn most fat. Speed walking is good as well and safer than jogging. Using weights also helps speed fat burning. Try renting videos for variety routines from Yoga(excellent stretch) to kick boxing!
