I have never finished the Bible. I've attempted many times but I have yet to make it all the way through. I'm shocked how many non Christians have the read the Bible n its entirety. I guess I need to look at myself and see how truly devoted I am =/

I'm a self dedicated Wiccan and have been practicing/studying Wicca over the past ten years. I have also read the bible form cover to cover a total of three times. In the future I hope to read the missing testaments and other works of interest. I'm also learning Latin with the hope of reading older versions of the bible.
Currently, I'm working on the quran as well. Both books have some wonderful stories and poetry but my interest goes beyond that. I want to try and understand the mind set of those who are so opposed to my religion. So far, cultural shifts seem to dictate opposition more than religious context. I say that because there are so many parts of the bible that are constantly quoted while leaving other parts out. The flavor of the month if you will seems to dictate not just which parts will be emphasized but how they are interpreted as well even if that interpretation is in direct conflict with previous interpretations of the exact same passage.
Honestly, I view the bible as those who put it together did. It is a way to control the large thong of believers and has been edited and reedited by those in power to keep their power and hold the masses at bay. It's a shame too because amidst the crap that has been manipulated over the years, there are some really good ideas.

I have read the Bible several times, and as I used to go to Church every Sunday, for years, I had it read to me in weekly portions many times more. When I was a child I attended Sunday school at church.
I am agnostic, so I don't know if there is a God, and I am not even sure about that either ;-)
If, however there would be a God, we cannot know anything about him, just as an ant, knows nothing of us. Let alone that God could be captured in words, in a book that is many centuries old.
Yet there are passages in the Bible, mainly in the New Testament, that I find very inspiring. The Old Testament is so much about death and destruction, caused by God to aid one group, or just because he cannot deal with the way people are evolving. The Second Testament is much more about human values (in stead of religious values) like wisdom, compassion, love, equality, liberty and endurance. So this is inspirational for all people I think.
And, yes and I know about the nasty bits too... ;-)

I've read it once, cover to cover, in order, during a 2 year bible study, and probably 2 or 3 more times just looking up passages and reading over the years.

I read it cover to cover at least 5 times when I was younger. Its been a long time because I think the thing is a joke. And even then, it read like a badly written childrens novel.

The King James, twice in it's entirety...but the Psalms many many times. I think the poetry in the King James version is beautiful and has spoiled me for the other translations, even if they are supposed to be more "accurate". I haven't read any of the other translations from cover to cover.

I'm an atheist and I've read it through once cover to cover both old and new. I go back and read parts of it from time to time.
I do the same with a lot of the literary classics....it's very interesting.

I haven't read it. I started at one point but got bored with the "so and so beget so and so, blah blah blah" that seemed to go on for pages. I have too much american and british literature homework in college as it is than to go and read the bible just for fun. When I get the time I'll probably sit down and read it.

Having been raised Catholic (now Buddhist) and having studied my Catholicism in great depth... not only did I read the Bible several times (cover to cover) but I also read the Catechism of the Catholic Church AND PJPII's philosophical works, especially "The Theology of the Body".
