I am bringing home a lovebird from a bird rescue shelter today that is going to be in a different cage. I know that birds need to be quantined, but does that mean they can't be in the same room?

New birds really need to be quarantined for at least 14 days. It is very important. Bird diseases are hard to determine until it's too late. Keep them in seperate rooms and they will be able to hear eachother. By the time it is safe to put them in the same room , they will be curious just from hearing eachother for the lase two weeks! I personally know how hard it is to wait b/c it is exciting introducing them , but it's better to be safe than sorry!
Congrats on rescue!!! Rescue is always the smart, caring way to go!

Most parrot owners I know quarantine for a minimum of 30 days, or however soon it takes for the new bird to receive a clean bill of health. They can NOT be in the same room during quarantine because many diseases can be transmitted by air.

After quarantine and a well bird health check, then they can be in the same room.

Quarantine the bird for 3 days in a different room, then introduce it into the same room as your other bird.

Most breeders would tell you to quantine for 30 days, but if you do a enviormental swab test then it could be shorter, call the guys at the lab I use they will help you. www.vetdna.com

they should be in the same room, not right by eachother though for the old bird might get jealous of the bird and do some harmfull things to the bird. they will be happy however, in the same room so they can chirp with eachother and have fun.I hope this helped!
