I've used Turbo Tax for about 4 years now and I never buy software. I do it online, at their website, and just pay the filing fee.
I fill out the long form, but I don't need their really advanced services, so it usually costs me about $20. Personally, I LOVE it. It even imports your info from participating banking eestablishments. Like, Fidelity Investments hold my 401K and other investments. I give Turbo Tax the ok and it goes right to fidelity and fetches all my records and even fills in all the blanks for the tax return. It knows exactly what to do.

p.s. I haven't gone online yet this year to check out the fees, so I'm only going by previous experience. The nice thing is that every year they send me an e-mail letting me know they have all my info from the previous tax years and they're ready to serve me again. They keep your records for you. Really nice!

Turbo Tax can only be valid for a particular year as tax laws are changed periodically. I am not aware if you can purchase an update for another year, but highly unlikely as form line numbers change from year to year because of deletions, cancellations, revisions, or additions.

Only one year. Federal tax laws, tax tables, and filing directions change every year. It would be a disaster if people used out of date software.

Just one year.
You also won't get the updates or anything for the next year. Laws and things change, the software you buy doesn't come with free updates.

It's only good for the year stated on the package. It says quite plainly on the package, "For Tax Year 2006". You must buy a new copy for each tax year.

You just have to update it each year for the next years changes and it is not even as much as you paid for it to begin with I might be wrong but I think it's something like $19.95
