nobody really knows yet. with new techniques and materials being developed all the time, the counts keep going up. I have heard of thread counts as high as 1500. anything better than 400 is usually good enough, 600 being excellent. Higher than that, you probably wont notice the difference if using them for ordinary bedsheets. Silk has a way higher thread count than cotton ever will, and some of the newer materials coming out surpass silk. Remember, generally, the higher the thread count, the higher the price, so it is not what is the most, but rather the most you can afford. Thread count alone does not make it good quality though, many other things must be considered. cotton sheets with high thread counts that are not of the long-staple variety feel like sandpaper compared to lesser thread counts of the long-staple variety.

I'm not sure if we can predict the highest possible thread count for the future with the way technology moves... but 1200 threads per inch is the highest I found in Egyptian Cotton sheets.

The highest thread count I've seen was Egyptian Cotton, which is supposed to be the most "luxurious" sheets and even those were only 1200 TC, and they cost 190.00, so obviously I left them on the shelf!

I talked to the manager of a Linen store who told me that anything over a 380 thread count is kind of a "farce". What the sheet manufacturers do is twist two threads in a way that lets them technically double the thread count. I don't know how true that is...maybe it was her way of finding an excuse as to why she didn't carry higher thread counts in her store (???)

It's possible it's the sheets. A 350 tc is actually a midgrade sheet. 600 and above are the best. You can try returning them to the store, and see if another 350 set does the same thing. If it does, you may want to go to a higher tc. If not, enjoy your sheets!

I recently purchased 1800 thread count on amazon. They are not that expensive. I spent 200 on everything and I purchased 4 king sized pillows, a sheet set, 2 pillow case sets, and a 3 piece comforter set. All for 200 bucks.

Ask her where she got them. I just did a search for 1800 thread count sheets and didn't find any.
