When you submit your request for an extention to file you are supposed to pay with it the amount that you believe will be due on the return. You are requesting an extention to file not pay.
If you have your taxes prepared, but are not able to pay, file the return and call the Internal Revenue Service to set up payment arrangements. You will be charged penalties and interest until the total amount due is paid in full.

Anyone can get an automatic 6-month extension by filing Form 4864. However, this is not an extension of the deadline to pay your taxes, which is April 17.
If you cannot pay, you may as well file your taxes and send what you can. Then pay the rest later.

Yes, but you will have to pay interest on the amount that you owe. The only thing an extension does is say that I have not finished my taxes, but I will finish them soon.
