I'm planning on having a private ceremony(myself and my boyfriend)to honor him.I already have some songs downloaded on a cd but I need a poem/tribute to him and I can't think of anything.Please give me some suggestions. Thx everyone.

Walk A Little Slower Daddy
"Walk a Little slower, Daddy." said a little child so small.
I'm following in your footsteps and I don't want to fall.
Sometimes your steps are very fast, sometimes they're hard to see;
So walk a little slower Daddy, for you are leading me.
Someday when I'm all grown up, You're what I want to be.
Then I will have a little child who'll want to follow me.
And I would want to lead just right, and know that I was true;
So, walk a little slower, Daddy, for I must follow you!!

I'll add some more for you later.
Dad
by Judy Burnette
Dad...so many images come to mind
whenever I speak your name;
It seems without you in my life
things have never been the same.
What happened to those lazy days
when I was just a child;
When my life was consumed in you
in your love, and in your smile.
What happened to all those times
when I always looked to you;
No matter what happened in my life
you could make my gray skies blue.
Dad, some days I hear your voice
and turn to see your face;
Yet in my turning...it seems
the sound has been erased.
Dad, who will I turn to for answers
when life does not make sense;
Who will be there to hold me close
when the pieces just don't fit.
Oh, Dad, if I could turn back time
and once more hear your voice;
I'd tell you that out of all the dads
you would still be my choice.
Please always know I love you
and no one can take your place;
Years may come and go
but your memory will never be erased.
Today, Jesus, as You are listening
in your home above;
Would you go and find my dad
and give him all my love.
A Daughter's Prayer
by Nikki Lenker
Father how I miss you
every waking day
I curse the one who made you
die and go away.
I miss your warm hands
and I miss the talks we had
I miss the times when words were of no need
and hope my love you'll always see.
I wish I'd had some time to say
how I loved you so
but I never got the chance
because it was your time to go.
I want the memories back
new and happy still
yet I know I never will
if you knew how much I cared
I might not feel so sad and scared.
My Father how I miss you so
My Father I need you!
I hope you knew about my love
because its strength is always true

A Dad is a person
who is loving and kind,
And often he knows
what you have on your mind.
He's someone who listens,
suggests, and defends.
A dad can be one
of your very best friends!
He's proud of your triumphs,
but when things go wrong,
A dad can be patient
and helpful and strong
In all that you do,
a dad's love plays a part.
There's always a place for him
deep in your heart.
And each year that passes,
you're even more glad,
More grateful and proud
just to call him your dad!
Thank you, Dad...
for listening and caring,
for giving and sharing,
but, especially, for just being you!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Father means so many things...
A understanding heart,
A source of strength and of support
Right from the very start.
A constant readiness to help
In a kind and thoughtful way.
With encouragement and forgiveness
No matter what comes your way.
A special generosity and always affection, too
A Father means so many things
When he's a man like you...
but yeah, i recommend you write something from your heart, because it means a lot more if it's your own words. those are just a couple of poems i found though.
good luck, and i'm sorry about your father :(

I would encourage you to pull the words from your own heart. Sit down and think about good memories, things you loved about him, etc. and just start writing. It will have more meaning if it comes from your heart. I'm very sorry that you even have to think about this. My heart goes out to you!

all the love we lose
many years have passed by
and torrents under bridges flowed
i recall and feel, so deep
all the love we lose
and pathways we would choose
that never are to be

Daddy i love you,
You're still close to my heart,
I'll see you again someday,
We won't always be apart.
Daddy I love you,
You're still special to me,
And when I close my eyes now,
There's still you I can see.
Daddy I love you,
I'll see you again,
When my life ends too,
We'll both be in heaven.
