You must burn more calories than you consume. Exercises like walking, jogging, biking, swimming or even dancing on a daily basis burn calories and promote cardio vasular health. Whatever your choice of exercise it must be something you are willing to do on a regualr basis, it must become part of your life. It need not be the same each day. As long as the exercise raises the heart rate and makes you sweat a bit its working for you. They say now that a least 30 minutes per day is needed but any is better than none and more is best. People who stay active and limit couch potato time are the most fit.

As for diet, to simplfy the entire thing eliminate most breads (bread, pizza, rice etc.), starches like potatos and corn, and nearly all sugar from your diet. Skip those fried foods and chips too.

Walking alone, with a friend or in a group of friends. Good for your physical and mental health.

Sitting down to eat at a table with a setting ie fork, spoon, knife, glass. This promotes a time to eat and where to eat and helps get away from eating in front of the refrigerator or at the kitchen counter.

Meditation when you get hungry for the junk food or high fat food also deep breathing and drinking slowly a glass of water or zero calorie soft drink. This is good for your psyche and cleansing of your body-the water.

A good attitude about life in general helps us all and really helps anyone trying to loose weight or stop smoking etc. Count your blessings and don't compare your body or life to others.

Love you for yourself and be good to yourself.

The weight will come off, slowly over time and while this is happening you can work on other things too.

Take good care.

"The sensible approach to reducing body fat stores is to combine moderate dietary restriction with increased exercise. Appetite is delicately balanced with the body's actual caloric needs. If you reduce your dietary intake by a mere 100kcal each day (one slice of buttered bread0, for example, you will lose about 4.5 kg (10 lb) in 1 year, assuming that your activity level remains consistent. But if you add to this an additional modest loss of 0.1 to 0.2 kg (0.25-0.5 lb) per week attributable to increased activity (such as a 3-day / week jogging program), your total weight loss would be about 10 to 16 kg (23-36 lb) in a single year, and most of this weight loss would be stored body fat."

I just got to my goal and I'm now a lifetime member doing Weight Watchers. My doctor, and many other doctors say all the time how this is one of the healthiest, most sensible diets to do. No crazy food restrictions. No "forbidden" foods. No eating tons of one thing you'd never normally eat and giving up things you love. It's all about cutting down your fat and your portions.

Find an activity you like even if you are not trying to loose weight.
Try volleyball or bicycling or tennis or hiking . . .
Most people quit the gym or machines because they are tooooo boring for the brain , very few can do it for long.
Find an activity you like and you will do it because it is fun.
I liked riding the bicycle paths around the bay area but I got the 50s type cruiser with a comfy seat, NOT one of those racing wedgies.
