Adding the letter 'S' to the word "corp" would be a good start.

You need a high school education. The Marine Corps allow a limited number of people with a GED to enlist per year, no more than five percent. They must have a minimum GED score of 50 on the AFQT to be considered. If you have some college you can graduate boot camps as an E2(Private First Class) instead of an E1(Private). Also, there is a minimum requirement of 32 on the ASVAB Score(Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)

Just wanted to add... good luck!

Edited to add: ERUDITE, I'm sorry your nephew doesn't know the Marines I do.

Have a D- average in High school. That should get him into the Marines. However!! My Nephew is in the Marines and he was a straight "A" in high school but he tells me most Marines aren't too bright. He wished he was in the Air Force so he could talk with the Military on a higher level.

Unless you're planning on being an officer (in which case a college degree is required -- unless you go through the Enlisted Commissioning Program where you spend about 14 years as a non-com before admission) the educational requirements aren't much. When I served (Vietnam) you could be a high school dropout. We used to say, they give you one x-ray, and if your bones show, you're in! It might be a little higher standard now, but probably not much. We're got another war now, and Marines are in high demand again.

Generally, most of the armed services prefer that one has at least completed high school. They still accept a G.E.D. as well, though some services are trying to limit that.
