The entire start and boot log is visible in a scrolling window, by opening a console, and typing 'DMESG'.

I prefer http://pclinuxos.com based on Mandriva, that, in some ways, improves the breed!

You can also try this:

Open Console. su root

type: chkconfig

for more info on chkconfig type: man chkconfig
in the console.
I am not sure if chkconfig is built into mandriva though.

If the list is overly long and you want to know the status of a certain service and you know it's name you can filter the output through grep e.g. if i wanted to check if lircd was running on startup.

chkconfig | grep lircd

hope that helps.
