my g/f recently said that she wanted to break up with me because she felt like I was too controlling - that I get mad when she goes out with a friend for dinner (sometimes 3+ hours) - I worry about if she's okay and what she's actually doing for so long. we have talked and she says she loves me, I'm her best friend, loves the way she can be herself with me and loves the way I make her feel, asked me to hug (which I did for 10 minutes) and kissed me before she left. i'm confused since this is what most want in a relationship, right? also, she said that a guy she dated before me (a year 1/2) who she saw as a friend, kept trying to make contact with her and she said no, but a month or so ago she replied. she also has him as a friend on her myspace page and has listed that she is there for 'dating'. I'm very confused about what is going on considering as soon as 5 months ago we were talking about if I would move with her if she had to for work, if we want kids, kids names, etc.

we're 27 and 28. she said that she had that feeling about me since we first met, but now this. she also said that she need time to herself to think and get things straight and find out if she wanted to be with me or not. i've asked if she's been with anyone else and she denies it and says that it's me and something she has to work out and to trust her that there isn't someone else. i've given her some time and recently left a message and asked if she wanted to go to dinner, to which she replied and said that she may tonight -- she's a pediatric resident and has a busy schedule. she still says she misses me, loves me, cries herself to sleep because she misses me. I'm just really confused.

and she was the one who brought up all of the "long-term" questions and comments.

forgot one thing, she's been engaged before and broke it off because the guy was a jerk and cheated on her.

My first question is how old are the both of you? It sounds like she doesn't know what she wants and isn't ready to settle down. If you feel very strongly about being with her then tell her you will give her some time to think. But do not allow her to string you along. Give yourself a time limit, for example in a month if she doesn't know what she wants then you owe it to yourself to move on. If you don't feel that strongly about being with her then you need to move on and find someone who knows that they want to be with you.

I think deep down you know what's going on. Except it. She's not "ready" to be committed just yet. By the way it sounds she's already in contact with her ex and considers herself "dating". Break ups can be hard sometimes, just be glad that you found his out before you two moved in together.,

She was cheating on you (even though she loves you just not as much as her "friend") That really sucks. That happened to me too, except he just left me alone and didn't talk to me. What I did was just say "he's not worth it, lets move on" and before I knew it, I had found my husband! After I married he came back to me like everthing was ok and told me he loved me on email! I deleted the message but before I did I told him to leave me alone and that was his fault. Just try to think that she didn't love you in the long run and that she would've cheated on you anyways. Once a cheater ALWAYS a cheater!!!!
ps the world is not gonna end in love life!

Good Luck ; )
