Yes, of course it is...extra virgin olive oil has essential fatty acids which are great for your heart....Also it tastes a heck of a lot better than vegetable oil....

My opinion....vegetable oil should be used only if you are deep frying something, which shouldn't be that often anyway....

I need to do a little explaining. 1) Extra-Virgin Olive Oil is
the first pressing of HIGH QUALITY olives. Most extra-virgin
comes from Spain/Italy/Greece, usually pick of the crop
from all 3 countries. I note that Turkish olives are being used also. EV olive oil is like fine wine. It should be used to make salad oils, some marinades or eaten raw. EV olive oil has a greenish tint from the color of the olives. 2) Plain Ooil
is used again in salad dressings or in light sauces. 3) Lite
Ooil can be used for cooking, but at a lower temperature
and used 1/2 to 1/2 with another oil such as corn/canola/
soy, etc.
All Ooil has a low burn point so can only be used at low
temperatures. If cooking at higher temps canola, or plain
"cooking oils" should be used.
4) So it's not a matter of what's better. They are both good
for what you need. I saute with plain olive oil and butter.

We get most of our fats from margarine, butter, cooking fats and oils. meat, milk, cheese, eggs, and from 'hidden' fats in cakes, biscuits and crisps.

Cooking Oil .... There are two 'essential' fatty acids important to health that need to be supplied by food we eat. All unsaturated vegetable oils, these include sunflower oil (which is high in the healthier polyunsaturated fats) and soya bean are good sources of these. If an oil is labelled 'cold pressed' or 'virgin' it has come from the first pressing which is carried out at a low temperature, and is of a better quality. This distinction is important with olive oil which is graded according to acidity. Extra virgin olive oil is considered the best as it has the lowest acidity. Olive oil (the finest and dearest oil) containing only polyunsaturated fats. Virgin olive oil is actually cholesterol-free.

Olive Oil is definitely better for you than vegetable oil.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is better for things like drizzling over steamed vegetables, salad dressing, dipping bread. Check the label for the acidity of the oil. The lower the acidity, the smoother and better tasting the oil.

Regular olive oil is better for cooking, since it has a higher smoke point. Use it for sauteing, light frying, marinating things that are going to be baked. It really shouldn't be used for deep frying, though. That's too hot for it.

Olive oil is more expensive, but it isn't good to use too much oil anyway.

It is if your looking to add a little flavor to what your cooking. If your just not wanting things to stick to a pan use vegetable oil!

According to all the top chefs the virgin oil is better. But also depends on the dish. Too pricey for me.

it is better and more flavorful extra virgin means it's the oil from the very first press so it is very good

In the superstore, fruits are usually picked out much too soon. Some are rocks, many are wrong. Some of the fruit and vegetables are generally right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.

Yes, tastes much better. Dont use it for frying though, it breaks down into harmful freeradicals (and you destroy most of the flavour anyway). Use it in pasta sauces, salad dressings etc.
