My white shorthaired cat is 16 this year and she has developed a yellowish hue to her fur,. mainly on her back and around her neck, otherwise she is in great shape. Any thoughts on that?

Saliva can make they're fur yellow. Are you sure her skin underneath isn't yellow? This can make they're fur look yellow, and this means that they're jaundiced and the liver isn't functioning properly. You should probably take her to the vet.

Baby shampoo works well. Although most cats do not kindly to having a bath. Put some warm water in the kitchen sink about half full is plenty and gently wet the cats fur then rub in some baby shampoo, this should get rid of most of the oil any left will gradually go with the natural shedding of the cats fur.Be sure that the cats is rinsed well and really dry before you let it back outside

Have you stopped bathing her regularly? If so, you might never have noticed before because she got her bath before her fur turned yellowish. The most likely reason in that her saliva is turning her coat yellowish (*very* common in white coated cats).

Since you've never noticed this before, you should have her checked out by the vet as well. She could have liver problems that are giving her jaundice.

Well I have seen white dos with this problem but not white cats.

I really dought this is because of her age, but you can try giving her a nice bath.

Sounds to me like your cat is either not urinating in it's litter box and then rubbing in it or rubbing in the litter box.
