Hi, i'm 20 years old and my life is pretty much full of diassapointments and depression. I don't have any friends, because i feel unmotivated because of my weight (140 kilos). I started guitar at 17 and my hopes of becoming a rockstar/jazzer is getting crushed since i started so late in my life and every profession musician i know started in their early teens and younger. My family trys to make me feel like i'm somthing i really not (good to have a positive family i guess) and it makes me so upset to think that i would let them down when im older. I have started smoking, and drinking, and the innocent shy me i once knew is pretty much screwed. Sometimes i wish i was dead, but me being really close to my mother i want to be there for her until she passes away. I feel like i'm nothing but a wasted life. I'm also not very intelligent, and i constantly try and study and get interested in intellectual things, but in the end i'm just stupid. (my iq is 90 somthing). What should i do?

Get tested to make sure you are not pre-diabetic or have low blood sugar or some other sort of insulin imbalance. The other chemical reactions that result from an insulin imbalance can imbalance the brain chemicals that help control moods and emotions. It is not how smart you are, it is what you do with it that really counts.

There is some info about low blood sugar at www.hufa.org. Especially consider checking out the symptoms link.

Also remember, we tend to remember the worst, about life, self, and others. So your family may be seeing things in you that are really there, but you have forgotten them.

You mentioned you are not intelligent. But, are you lazy too? Study has shown that people who are hard-worker, but less intelligent would out-perform than those who are intelligent, but lazy. The point is there are higher chances of success with hard-work than with intelligence alone.

If you are not lazy (which I am sure you are not, based on you what you mentioned about your efforts to become musician), I believe, the luck would be in your favor.

If you are not happy with your over-weight condition, then you have to exercise (means no laziness). Spend some time on the computer to find ways to reduce weight, and "stick with the plan". This will fix 60%-70% of your problem right away. I guarantee this. Most of the depression comes from the what we eat and how our body handles that. Exercise and eat the right food.

Are you handicapped, heart problem, blind, deaf or anything? If not, Congratulations!, God has given you everything you need to get there.

You have a long life to go. No one knows what rewards future holds for us. Just be patient and never give up hard work.

Good Luck!

The point that you know very well about your limitations and the boldness to accept in itself is a great quality and believe it or not, you have already croosed 50% of the bridge. Today, everyone is looking for one commodity which is not available. That is peace and happiness. Why can't you think of bringing peace and happiness for others in your own little way. Just do community service in the hospital or try to run a day care centre. Yoiu will find the purpose of your life. Just think where the disadvantage can be an advantage for others.

your mind set and thinking process is negative rather than being positive... you, at least, should be neutral and do not jump to conclusions about yourself. you must remember that you are a human being and you, like any other person, cannot achieve what ever you wish and dream. you are as intelligent as any body else around.

you had started learning guitar at 17 it is quite adequate age for getting in to learning a musical instrument. you know your fingers might be still not that tough for gliding over and stretch the guitar strings. only the precautions you have to take that you must concentrate on your guitar lessons rather than getting worried whether you would become a rock star.

forget about your weight and start running in the morning and stop eating saturated fats and junk food including deep fried dishes. your weight would be alright within 3 to 6 months. keep moving all the time and your reflexes should be quick. drinking would increase your weight... so, stop drinking and smoking right away...

do not predict about your future as it is sort of day dreaming. stop thinking about your days to come and struggle with today's problems... fight back... do not sit idle... work hard... and you would find that you are even better than many around...

good luck... take off right now...

How about seeing your doctor and getting the depression treated. As for you hope of being a rock star that dream should still be alive. You do not have to be a teen to become a star or even be great in your own little circle of life. You have to keep pushing. My girlfriend had a wonderful band later in life and was even offered a recording career in Nashville but she turned it down as she had a young family at the time. She continued to play in her band locally though until it got to be to much for her and her second husband to handle. The only one who can make you a star is YOU. If you give up you will never be anything more than you are now but if you keep pushing yourself the sky is the limit to what you can achieve.

Hey.. If you want to be a rocker/jazzer get out there and find a good school.. Check out Berklee School of Music in Boston.. One of the better school's for guitarists. I know. One of my former students went to Berklee after studying with me at 16-17 He is now one of the biggest sound mixers in the movie industry.. He has two Oscars and is 44 now. Check out this guitarist in Ca.. Henry Kaiser. He started playing at 19 and is a monster. Don't make excuses. You want it. go for it..otherwise.. wallow in self pity.. I don't smoke, run every other day lift weights 5 days a week play, practice guitar often.I'm 53.. Get into doing things that make you feel good. .Exercise is one of the best.. Take baby steps.. Don't go all out. Good luck..I think my email is available.. If you live in the US.. I can give you some good guitarists to study with. .

Sweetie, never give up! Your life is just beginning. You need to look at yourself positively and find the good in you, trust me, it's there.

Also, talking to a mental health professional may help you-you might find the way you are feeling is not your fault, but due to a chemical imbalance beyond your control. It's a disease.
