The power supply on the tv is bad. If you just bought it, take it back where u got it from. If you have had it for awhile, it is going to cost money to repair.

There are two possibilities.
Firstly did you move the tv at all?. And if you did di you leave it in its new position for a few hours? The reason i ask this is because Plasma tv's, unlike LCD tv's have a chemical in them. So the principle is the same as a refrigderator if you move it from the vertical position then it should be left so the chemicals can settle. If this is not done then the disturbed chemicals can react and cause your tv to break down. Solution: get new tv and get an LCD.

Secondly you say you bought the TV in 2001. Well thats quite an age for a fitrst generation Plasma tv. And i guess it has served you well. But as with all First Generation equipment Things do die quicker than second or third gen equipment. I think we are on seventh gen tech for these things nowadays so you can see how quick this stuff is evolving.

Solution: Go buy a new tv.

That's about it really. Other than leave your tv to sit for at least 24 hours.if no joy then. get a repair man to check it out or get in touch with your household insurance company.

One of the biggest problems that early plasma screens had was dry joints . The unit will get warm during opperation and as a result it expands and contracts , this causes the soldered joints to expand and contract also causing minute fractures in the solder that eventualy widen and break the circuit around a compomnent leg or an Ic carrier this repair shouldnt be very exspensive providing you can find an honnest fair tradesman . And dont try to do this yourself it is a specialist job as many of the components are surface soldered , and require a temprature controlled electronic iron to get them off or resolder them , and are also usually so small that they need a magnifying glass to find them . In this country it would possibly cost about £60 to £80 not sure what that would be in dollars . But consider this the old Plasma and some of the new large plasma screens take the same amount of electric to run them as a three bar electric fire . 1Kwh x3 so it is btter to run an LCD that runs on half the power consumption of a normal Television . But without actualy looking at the set no one can tell you how much it will cost ?

Could be the gas needs re-charging, but plasma TVs only have a useful life of three years - see the manufatcturers web-site. 6 years is a good run.

They're so cheap you should get an LCD to replace it, plasma has had it's day.
