i have used windows vista ultimate (beta 5600) for the last 6 months, dual booted with xp and i have noticed that games that would install on xp without a problem will not load at all on vista
i reckon this is due to the way that vista has been written, the code in vista is totally different to xp,much more secure and the registry is different too,i was playinga racing game on vista, and when you set up the controls for a gamepad and it needs to go to the desktop, vista just gave me a error message saying "invalid registry request" or something like that
there is a compatibilty wizard program in vista but as with the xp version its not a defenite answer as it dosent allways work, but you can give it a go
if you have a large enough hard drive i would suggest partitioning your hard drive into 2 and installing xp on c drive and vista on d,i have done this and as long as you install xp first and then vista after it will work fine
i use xp for gaming as nearly 100% of games work with xp and then vista i use for web surfing and any office applications
i would use at least a 160gb hard drive to dual boot allowing 80gb for each operating system
when you boot up you will be given the vista boot manager(as this is the senior operating system) and then you have a choice of "vista" or "earlier version of windows(xp)",there is also a memory diagnostics option aswell
if you need any further advice on creating a dual booted system just let me know
good luck

Well, no, for the most part. You have to buy new games that comply with the onerous DRM of the most recent and non-functional XP 'upgrade' called Vista!
If you don't remember, the upgrade of win98/ME to XP meant lots of programs, and games, and hardware, became junk and got thrown into the landfills.
Many of us switched to http://pclinuxos.com that includes 5500 Free games. Because:
1. GNU/Linux is virus immune, Not vulnerable to the "114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions" and malware!
2. all the old hardware works better than ever!
3. Installed, as a sole, or a multi-bootable OS, it runs upto 50X faster!
4. GNU/Linux runs in meager resources, is thrifty, and, takes up only 6Gb of a hard drive, (the system and all files is about 2Gb, the remainder is for your movies, songs, photos).
5. 'updates' install without reboots.
6. Microsoft.com runs 15,000 Linux servers, for safety and protection from malware and virus.
7. and, there are about 9,999 more reasons!
We can discuss them in the FREE forums, where there are thousands of helpful folks!
