Whenever I close a door in my house (bathroom door, bedroom door, closet doors) my cat sits on her hind legs and repeatedly paws at the door. Its really annoying, like for example if I want to close my bedroom door at night so she cant get in. She'll sit on the other side and do that action for along time on and off until I let her in.

My cats do that, they are trying to open the door to get in.
They know you are in there, they dont like closed doors. My cats do that to a closet door too, and can actually get it open. I think it is a common behavior with some cats. Am not sure how you can stop it though.

Because she's "always on the wrong side of every door", a line from the musical "Cats". Don't you know that your cat owns you, your house, and everything in it?

Only joking, but most cats behave this way, some do it more than others, but it's a common cat behavior. They are curious animals and they just want to have complete access to everywhere, so they can keep an eye on things. When you are trying to sleep with the door closed, your cat wants to come in and be with you. Make sure you spend enough time with her and that she has enough toys.

We always joke that one of our cats has to supervise all human activity because we can't be trusted to do anything properly on our own. Our cats spend the night in the basement, where they have food, water, litter boxes, beds, and toys, otherwise we wouldn't get any sleep. If you have a spare bedroom and if your cat's behavior is really bothering you, you could set her up with her own "bedroom" too, make sure she has everything she needs, but also be prepared to hear some playing going on at night. Remember they are mostly nocturnal animals.

Good luck!

1. Because she cannot tell you that she wants to be with you.

2. Because she is too short to reach thre door knob, and

3. You have not established boundaries with your cat in the same way that you would with a toddler.

Cats ARE very trainable, and if you do not respond to her scratching at the door, then she will eventually stop doing that behavior because she will not be getting rewarded for it.

If you do not like to have your cat sleep with you (which I love, most of the time), and your cat does not have a bed, then get one or make one. You can teach your cat to sleep in it with some patience and positive reinforcement.

Scratching at anything is instinctual for cats, but you are the one who taught her that scratching at a door will get it to open.

You can also use voice commands, and can tell your cat, "No," in a firm voice (not a yell) and they will respond to that also. You can also gently take the cat away from the door while you tell her, "No," also.

Remember, you are the one in control, not your cat (the cat thinks otherwise, though).

FOR ANYONE WHO THINKS A CAT CANNOT BE TRAINED, TAKE A LOOK AT MY VIDEO ON YOUTUBE.COM. JUST DO A SEARCH FOR "MAX DOES DOG TRICKS."

She wants to be with you. Some kitties are very attached to their humans and just want to be wherever you are. Especially at night, she wants to sleep with you. In spite of what a lot of people think, cats are very independent, but they also like to be warm and cozy at night. If that's not something you want and really want her to stay out of your bedroom at night, make sure she's got her own cozy bed someplace in the house. Kitties love to sleep up off the floor, out of drafty places.

I've had up to 6 kitties at one time and several of them LOVE sleeping in boxes. I usually use the top of copy paper boxes, put an old towel I don't want anymore in the box and put it up on the TV or a table or someplace where they can easily reach and be warm and snuggle in for the night.

I've never been too successful at closing doors on my kitties - they're just to nosy and want to know what's going on in there where I am. The older they get, the less it happens - I can at least go to the bathroom and take a shower these days without anybody crying or scratching outside the door!

Good luck and thank your little furball for loving you so much she wants to be with you all the time!!

You cant keep cats from doing anything! They have their own minds, and are very independant. She most likely scratches on the door because she wants in.

your cat has you trained. She knows if she paws long enough, you'll give in.
