Usually a little later cause as it cooks it would thicken and you don't want it to thicken to much..wait till about the last hour to hour and 1/2

If your beef stew recipe includes a generous amount of potatoes, it may not be necessary to add corn starch at all to thicken it. The slow cooking in the crock pot will release the starch in the potatoes to thicken the stew over a period of four to six hours. If you do need to thicken it further, mix the corn starch in about a cup of cool water until it is throughly dissolved and add the mixture during the last thirty minutes of cooking.

Browning the cubed beef in a seasoned oil makes all the
difference in the world. After browning, add to crock pot,
add cubed potatoes, can of tomatoes, carrots ,onions,
whatever other veggies you want. At least 2 cups chicken
or beef broth. Cook until done. Make cornstatch slushy--add
salt and pepper or maybe dried basil and thyme. Turn heat
off on crock pot--gently incorporate the slushy into the stew.
It will stay warm a long time.

I like this, it's not really a stew but if you cut it up after cooking it it is! You will need: 1 tri-tip roast (what this means is that its just a tri-tip that's been tied with kitchen twine) 1 package of Lipton onion soup mix 4 red potatoes, cut into chunks 1 bag of baby carrots On the bottom of the pot, place your carrots and potatoes. Pour in some of the Lipton and stir it up. Then, place the roast on top of the veg. Pour the rest of the Lipton on top and cook on low for 6-8 hours and voila! Delicious and very easy pot roas a la crock pot.

use the same recipe ingredients, but add less liquid and slow cook all day, adding a small handful of uncooked barley or rice will also soak up some of the liquid and make the stew thicker...you don't have to use the corn starch.

Use a little less liquid and add the cornstarch at the end if it needs thickening. You'd just uncover the crock and add your cornstarch and water, cooking on high until thickened.

Another option would be to use some Minute Tapioca during the cooking process. It does a nice job of thickening.

In the superstore, fruits are usually chosen much too soon. Some are rocks, many are wrong. Some of the fruit and vegetables are right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.
