I was wandering what to do about this. My 4 year old daughter has a swollen spot on the left side of her neck under her ear. She says it hurts, but only when something touches it. My mom said it was probably her lymph nodes. What causes this, is it serious, and what should I do?

Normally viruses can cause swollen lymph nodes. If the swelling doesn't go down in a week or so take her to a doctor, as swollen lymph nodes are also indicative of other things. If it is a virus it isn't that serious and is rather common.

Usually a swollen lymph node/gland is a sign of infection. Another possible cause is a small cyst. Take your daughter to the Doctor for a correct diagnosis and treatment.

If she has swollen lymph nodes along with fever, sore throat, unusual tiredness, or headaches; then I would take her to the Dr.
If the node in itself has been swollen for more than a few days, I would consult a Dr.
Good luck to you both.

Her body is fighting an infection somewhere. Maybe in her throat or mouth. She might need antibiotics. Take her to see a doctor.
