He won't look at me or talk to me. We have a few mutual friends and when I'm hanging out with them and he's around he's really quite. The only time he will talk to me is if I say somthing directly to him. He is very important to me and I want him to be happy. We had a mutual break up mostly because he just didn't want to be with me anymore. He said he would be my friend but now he acts so distant from me. Why won't he just be my friend?

well that's obvious he doesn't want to be considered your lover any more so now he's trying to avoid you because he thinks you're still not over him and he didn't want to make you feel for him again because that actually will hurt you ..

It's really hard to be friends with someone after a break up. Both people may/may not still have feelings for the other and that makes the post-breakup situation very awkward. If friendship and common interests were a plus in your relationship and BOTH of you are willing to put aside your past fling, then the friendship between you two will resume when you give it enough time to. These things don't happen overnight.

It is probably hard for him. SOmetimes it is better to break all ties off for a while and maybe in the future you can start to be friends again once he (and you) are completly over it and moved on.
Most of the times there isnt any way to be friends with an ex. No matter what.

It sounds to me like he's not ready to be your friend. maybe he is still dealing with the fact that the two of you are not together anymore. He might even be feeling guilty about not wanting to be with you anymore and regretting the fact that he even said it to you. I think that you should give him some time and talk to him without your friends around and maybe that will help. Good Luck!!

This "staying friends" after a break up is a girl thing, I guess guys just don't think that way. Nothing they hate to hear more than "we can still be friends" after a romance. Just won't work.

maybe because he needs time. i mean it's rough after brake up. so give him a few days or so. then sfter he gets used to it he'll be up again and start talking to u. or maybe he just lied and then going to never talk to u again. well it doesn't matter. u can find a new guy and get over hm. u'll see. good luck and try not to think of him!!!

The breakup is probably a lot harder for him than he let on. For right now, I suggest giving him a lot of space. Maybe in time, he will be friends with you again.

Even in relationships that both agree it should end, there is still a period of mourning for the loss of a relationship. He may still be feeling the loss of what could have been. Give him time and respect his wishes to keep his distance from you.

If HE left you than he is still probably embarrassed and nervous because he did something that is his fault. He doesn't know what to say because it is awkward to know that you once were in a relationship.
