I have an 8 week old kitten that I just adopted and I've noticed that he has a weird breathing pattern. His little chest is always heaving like he's been running a marathon, but he isn't crying or acting like anything is amiss. He's eating, playing and going to the bathroom. Usually it's like 3 heavy breaths in a row and then a pause. I'm thinking it's a heart condition. I am going to take him to the vet, I'm just looking for any info beforehand to try and prepare myself. So, does anyone know what it is and more importantly if it's fatal?

It's not an upper res. infection because I also adopted the brother and he's fine.
I got them from a person's home, so no kennel cough.
I do plan to take him to the vet tomorrow, I was just looking for a heads up.

Take him to a vet tomorrow if you can. Just because you got him from a home doesn't mean it is safe. I took two home and one had FIP, the other did not. It could be a respiratory infection. It could be a number of things. Don't wait to long.

Perhaps it's an asthma condition or resperitory infection. Upper rep. infections are common in kittens, especially when you've adopted them from somewhere like a shelter or pet store, like a kennel cough in puppies. I had a cat with asthma as well, and she would breath funny when she was sick. Good luck at the vet.

It definitely isnt something to put off. It sounds like a bad upper respiratory infection, or yes, could be a heart condition. Check your adoption papers to see if you can get refunded if the kitten should sadly die. Get him to a vet ASAP!!

This sounds more like a lung thing to me, and very likely your vet can resolve it, possibly with nothing more than antibiotics (see the vet, and get them from the vet, don't try to treat this yourself with no veterinary guidance). Get him to the vet asap.

It sounds like he's trying to learn how to purr... but then again, maybe he has allergies. Get a vet's help soon.
