I want to be able to restore my xp system to my hard drive so that it is setup already with my favorite applications, instead of having to reinstall everything from scratch. I'm not sure how to go about it or what to use.

First have some CD-R or DVD-R or DVD+R blank disks. Do nor use RW disks of either type.
Click start, All Programs, System Recovery. Then click Create My Drivers-Applications CDs. A box appears asking if you want to Burn ISO or Create ISO. Click Burn ISO. Another box opens and you click Start Creation. A message will tell you the number of blank disks that are required for the recovery set. In the next box click the type of recordable disk you want to use. It will be either Cds or DVDs. Make sure that you have the correct number and then insert a blank disk into your recordable drive and you are on your way.

Three incorrect password entries forces a reboot.
Installing the Recovery Console

As discussed above, the Recovery Console may be installed to hard disk or started from the XP Installation CD. The procedure below illustrates installing the console as a boot menu option. This will require ~7MB of disk space. I feel this is the preferred option as immediate access to the Recovery Console is available, eliminating the need for access to the Windows XP Setup CD.
