Pick them and order now. It takes a few weeks to complete the order then you have to allow time to have them addressed, which takes time as well, they should be in the mail no later than May 20th and honestly, you should send them out earlier because you will need them ahead of time to confirm your guest count with the caterer.
As for the fish, I can only say this. My kids had a fish which we kept on the table for 1 day, my husband was thouroughly grossed out by the fish being on the table when we sat down to eat dinner. It never returned to the dinner table again. Some people will find it gross, some will find it cool and others will find it kind of inhumane (what will you do with all these fish after the wedding?). Plus you are never guaranteed the life of a fish and you dont want to have the possiblity of a floater during the reception. Just some things to think about.

Order invitations is Late February or early march- that way you can make sure everything is correct. If you care planning on having the envelopes professionally written on, i say do that in late March or April and then send them out in the first of May.
As far as fishbowls go- i am a bit leery about them, unless they hold something other than live fish. Most people dont want to travel home after a wedding with a live animal. If you do use fish, i would go with Beta, but otherwise you may end up with a lot of bowls with floaters in them. Otherwise you can go with the floating candles or flowers. Fish are really nice, but not a good idea for centerpieces.
I am actually using "fishbowls" for my wedding however they will be filled with "magic crystals" (it is a powder substance that once you put water on it and stir it it begins to grow and forms "crystals" that expand to fit the bowl.). When the Crystals are setting I am placing glow sticks that are the same color as my reception and placing a tea light in the gel and letting it form.
The illumination inside of the bowls with the crystals will make the centerpieces stick out and the tealights will add a touch of class.. or cute...lol
good luck with your planning! Enjoy!

I own a country club and handle all of the wedding planning. I can give you some input on the fish bowls.
I had a bride who wanted fish bowls with beta fish for her centerpieces. Beta fish cannot be put in the same bowl together, or they will kill each other.
That aside, she brought the fish to me the day before her wedding...and she brought them to me in plastic containers filled with water!!! My concern was...well what if they died? The fish were not in a tank and couldn't be put together. What if I came in the next day and they were all floating on top of the water????
Anyway....we put the fish in the fish bowls and fortunately they all lived. But at the end of the evening, no one wanted them but a 10 year old boy who was at the reception.
Quite honestly I thought the whole thing was rather sad. I ended up keeping one of the fish...but I could only keep one because I couldn't put them together!
I'm sure the fish that went home with the boy got flushed down the toilet. Just a sad waste of life and money if you ask me. Live animals at weddings are not a good idea.

About the invitations, you have to check with whom you are ordering them from. For example, ours were printed wrong, so we had to send them back and get new ones printed - and luckily we had enough time.
LOVE the fish in the fishbowl idea - I only read about it after we got married, or else I would have done that. One way to give away centerpieces is to put a number taped under each chair at a table, and then make a draw. If one person doesn't want it, they can pass it on.

Order your invitations in March so that you have time to proofread and check everything. Have them ready in April for calligraphy or writing the names and addresses. Mail them in May.
Fishbowls are good centerpieces. I had a friend who used those for her wedding and the guests did like it but some brought it home. Some fishes died too. Now, you can opt to use fishbowls but put flower or floating candles and flowers there or surround the fishbowls with candles in nice votive holders.

On the fishbowl idea are you talking about the detour type that's called a fishbowl or a really 'fish' bowl. I have used the fishbowl detour type before but not with really fish...I filled them with water some we colored the water and floating candles. If you use floating candles they don't last as long as normal candles if you are wanting that flickering candle light.
Congratulations.

The fish idea sounds cute, if you dont have enough room for the fish then let some of the young ones, take them home. You should at least order them by May 10th, and then fill them out between the 19th, send them out the 19th. There, just be sure to be ready and organized! Happy marriage!

pick out your invites and order them NOW or in the next few weeks then take your time sending them out-If fish mean something tpo you then maybe but otherwise maybe work a fish motif(shells?) ocean kind of thing into your centerpiece...skip the live things....

No fish! No one will want to take them but you *will* have a screaming child at the end of the night who wants one but whose parent does not want to take care of it.
