In Europe a written 1 looks very much like the written 7. Imagine writing the 1 w/ the little hook at the top being much longer what does it look like? In America we write our 1's very much like a lower case L.

It's pretty much a European thing, especially Germany and the Eastern European countries. It is only used in handwritten sevens, which makes a case for the seven more closely resembling the one. Some countries also slash their zeroes.

Well, I don't know why, but I know where it originated. They do it in france, because there the one and the seven are exactly the same without the slash. Maybe whoever's doing it either took french, has french ancesters and was taught to write it that way, or they just think it looks cool.

It is a clarity thing...just like slashing your Zs to keep them distinct from your 2s. Many in the mathematics world do this...while writing long equations your handwriting may get sloppy, and, so that there isn't any confusion, you slash them!

Yeah, emotionally susceptible for most, yet solid for some those who go with to stay devoid of emotion. Which, contained in the proper, is the worst determination. And the "week" wouldn`t be finished devoid of laughter so no for the different meaning.
