I'm an eighteen-year-old girl, slightly overweight... I'd like to get back in shape, right now I'm on a diet and I work out everyday (push-ups, jumping the rope, running)...
Should the combination of exercise and healthy food make me lose wight? I was watching a tv program the other day, and they basically said it's a myth that with exercise fat can turn into muscles...so what should I do?
any tricks on good exercises are appreciated , thanks :) syl

Bottom line there is no "trick" to losing weight. Let me break it down for you. First of all do not be concerned with losing weight. I'll explain, you see most people (women in general) want to lose weight. But what should be more important is losing body fat. There is a term called the scale to mirror ratio. Which means you can lose body fat and look better (i.e. thinner) and not have lost that much weight, maybe just a few pounds. And the reason for this is muscle weights more than body fat. A few things to know about losing body fat:

1. Perform your cardio work out first thing in the moring, because while you sleep your body burns fat for energy, therefore to keep it going do cardio when you get up.

2. Drink about a gallon of water a day. It has been shown that 17 oz of cold water can raise the body tempture 30 degrees for upwards of 40 minutes. This is called thermogenesis, which is needed to burn body fat.

3. Diet. Don't sweat the calories baby, what you need is simple carbs (about 15% daily), and plenty of protien (about 60%), then there is fat, yes fat, you 'll want unsaturated, maily found in stuff like nuts or flaxseed (about 10 %), and the rest should be amino acids the building blocks of muscle (a protein shake a day should take care of this).

4. Eat alot, and by that I mean break your food intake into at least 5 meals a day. This keeps your metabolism going, which inturn will keep thermogensis going too.

5. Rest. Your muscles need a total of 48 hours to heal themselves. That burning feeling you get after you work out isn't a good thing. What that is ia lactat acid, and it actually breaks your muscle down, so don't try to feel the burn.

6. Supplementation. I won't tell you what to take, but you need something to help you out. Go to GNC and talk with their staff, they are very knowledgible and know what the hottest stuff is.

7. Finally, do not expect a overnight change. It takes time, engery, displine, and understanding that every body is different and what works for the guy who is 6% body fat might no t work for you.

Of course there is much, much more I could go into but then I would have to charge you. .....lol. Just don't forget the scale to mirror ratio, and it wouldn't hurt to maybe get a scale that measures body fat & water weight (Wal-Mart), so you can actually see the progress you are making in losing body fat. And try not to get furstrated, I know "other people" might be able to drop body fat like its nothing, but they might have a genetic profile that allows them to to that too. Good luck!

Oh, and fat does not turn to muscle, you build muscle. The muscle you build burns more fat for engery, hence the "turning fat into muscle" thing. Thats all!

Hello I don't think it is necessary for your body to turn into a muscle because what you are doing is great way to loose weights and you have to watch your diet: when to eat because eating late a night don't help. have salad and fruit all the time the best one is a tomato salad really healthy. i hope I help

Diet and exorsize. No fancy gimicks or machines. None of that stuff really works. Just diet and exorsize.

The trick to losing weight is to burn more calories a day than you take in.

quit watching tv-it will fry your brain! Exercise is the best thing you can do physically and emotionly! Do you drink plenty of H2O and have you eliminated greasy and processed foods? This alone will help keep your body in balance. I do a combo of an ab roller and leg lifts twice a day. It gets my heart going, and works on my butt. Good luck-KILL YOUR TV!!!!
