Rule number one when two kids fight, two kids need to be in trouble.
Immediately start the rule that any fighting will result in punishments for both. Doesn't matter who started it, who stopped it, who hurt who.
If they fight, take away all play stuff (ipods, cell phones, xbox, tv, radio, cd player, etc.) and make them sit down and do nothing.
Do it everytime they fight.
Odds are that the parents are a big cause of this and you probably won't be able to control them. Be prepared to look for a new job or put up with their BS behavior.

Do you have any movies you could take over to there home when you babysit? Put one in one room with the movie of choice the other in the other room.
Both of them have popcorn and drink. This way they are not together.
If you do anything physical like a game it sounds as if there will be blows. Library might be a good place to take them. They could each have a computer, separate from each other. Or they could rent a movie, or music. Oh the library also has books, but given there ages who knows if they are into books....
Need to keep in mind you are not there friend. You are there baby sitter. Any weakness and kids will find it.
Good luck!

Try and occupy the kids with something fun to do that they both will enjoy. Ask the parents if you can perhaps prepare a snack with their help. I find cooking with children is always fun. Or play a fun game or arts and crafts. Try asking what their problems are with each other, see who starts them and see if you can sort it out, also sit with them and try to find their common interests or play a game with them like truth or dare, it always helps sort out problems and that way they will learn a lot about each other. If they are still out of control then talk to the parents and see what they can do about the constant fights. Until then just keep them occupied and separated if its the only thing that works. Make sure you dont break down in front of them, that will lose you a lot of respect from them. Try and act calm and take control.
Good luck

hers a good but nasty lil trick :-)
talk to some of the local cops see who has a fun and easy going personality and see if they might be willing to "scare" the kids a lil
tehee
let the kids know that if they don't start behaving you will call the police on them, at first it will work ok but then they will try to call your bluff. if you can make friends with a cop who can show up when he's off duty.... real is always better... or find a friend that the kids don't know and have him dress up as a cop, it will scare and impress them
real is best cause they can see the squad car out front
other wise the only real thing you can do is talk to the parents, but i don't know if that will help because they may not be very involved with how their children behave... i've seen that way to often since i have work retail for a long time.
good luck

Tell the parents about this problem you are having while watching their kids. You have to find out how they want this problem to be solved, these aren't your kids and you can't discipline them in any way not sanctioned by the parents. Other than that I would try to get them organized in specific activities. You can keep them separated by saying--"OK, mark you will play the PS2 for half and hour and Jan you can watch TV" these are just examples. Maybe get them coloring or dancing to the radio, see who can make the others laugh by the funniest dance moves. Have them compete in a race around the house to see who is fastest. This takes a lot of energy out of them and makes them less likely to fight. Do not let them fight, make them go to their own rooms for 15 min and them they can try to get along again. Every single time they start, 15 min time out again. They will get really tired of this and hopefully they will think twice before fighting again. It works in my house. Good luck!

Basiclly the old rule still aplys. If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. Let it be known you dont care how they act around there parents, but as long as you are there to watch them they will play by the rules. Tell the parents of there actions while they are away and come up with some attitude adjustment agreements. That way you know what to do when they act up and the parents are aware of your punnishment aggrements. Good luck

what you need to do here is find something to do that they both like. this could be board games and video games. then play with them. all they really need is something to do to keep them occupied. that is usually why kids fight. it is because they are bored. if those two suggestions do not work then find out what else they like to do and do that. this should help things out a lot. i am not saying it will stop because nothing will stop it completely. kids are going to do this but it should keep it within a managable level for you. hope this helps. good luck.

Sadly there is not a lot that you can do the parents are allowing this behavior. I'd just try to keep them separated as much as possible. As old as they are they are set in their behavior of being disrespectful to each other, it's very sad that the parents have not gotten a handle on this.
