David S asked a similar q - Why blame UK & USA?. He chose a BA before I could post my answer, hence this q challenging his view that religion is irrational and outmoded and we should start to believe in "the essential logic of human kindness".
6000 years ago God told mankind to show respect, not to murder, not to commit adultery, not to steal and not to give false testimony. ANYTHING IRRATIONAL AND OUTMODED ABOUT THAT? Wouldn't the world be a better place if everyone followed these rules?
Is there any evidence to support the idea that human kindness is the way forward?

To xians-are-evil: I am not insinuating that human kindness comes from Christian morals, merely holding up Christian morals as something good and desirable.
To superchip - I am not saying that Christians have a monopoly on goodness. There are lots of good people out there.
The question is should we stop believing in religion and trust human kindness instead? Is human kindness alone the way forward? Can we trust in ourselves to put right all the wrongs and injustices we see?

There isn't enough human kindness in the world, so don't let us knock it! However, humanists don't have a monopoly on it any more than Christians do! "Religion" is a red herring. It continually comes up as the reason (or excuse?) to ignore God and his claims over our lives. Granted, many horrible and God-dishonoring things are done in the name of religion, but logical people can soon work out who the hypocrites are and distance them from worshippers who are sincere. The difference between them is like night and day.
Kallan, by the way, raised a good question about the hundreds of laws apart from the Ten Commandments you referred to. The simple answer is that the ceremonial and dietary laws only ever applied to the nation of Israel, not to the whole of humanity. When Christ replaced the Old Covenant by keeping it perfectly and introducing the New Covenant, the ceremonial and dietary laws became obsolete. But the eternal verities are in the Ten Commandments and continue to this day. However, nobody keeps them perfectly. If they were kept perfectly, we would have a perfect world.
For those who dismiss the first 2 Commands as irrelevant (no other gods before Yahweh; no idols: Exodus 20), consider these quotes: "If the First Commandment is against worshipping a false god, the Second Commandment is against worshipping the true God in a false way." "Idolatry is the graffiti of Satan written right across humanity... Idolatry degrades humanity." Get true worship of the true God, and the biggest obstacles to loving one's neighbours as oneself are removed. Priorities are of prime importance! No human logic would come up with that, but God has, and it's for our own good. All human kindness is derived from humanity being created in the image of God.

There is some evidence that human kindness is the "way forward" indeed. Compassion is a kind of kindness, and the Dalai Lama describes his religion as the practice of compassion. His government in exile has done well, showing people that revenge is not the answer. Even if he had an army behind him, he would not use aggression.

Whether you are X, Y or gay you should repair your mind first! Don't worry about the kids. They will find the Truth in their own way! Knowledge of God is ingrained in human nature hence Religion is an integral part of human civilizations. Fairy tales and human history are two different directions therefore you should choose any one for your guidance. No one can deny the recorded history with prophets of God, Miracles and Holy Books! This is the only reason as to why we (humanity) search God - the creator of universe. Peace & Blessings!

And where do you suppose humans came from?
Human kindness the way forward?
We would be stuck in backwards forever if we depended on human kindness, that's why we call on God the one and only creator of humans, as he knows his creations inside and out.

Personally I think that human kindess should be shown no matter what your religion. Life is all about variety and we shouldn't get hung up on the differences.

Human kindness has always been the way forward, Hon. Problem is , most humans don't show kindness, especially to one another.

How about the other 608 commandments that He gave to the jewish people? I mean, why pick and choose, right?
He also told them to slaughter animals and commit genocide.. to enslave others, et al.. is this the god you want us to follow instead of human kindness?
