Start by searching for e-mail accounts. Log onto the free mail servers (Yahoo, MSN etc.) and do a person search - from that, you may find an account that belongs to him.
You could also try a people search. There are plenty of search engines (I'll give you a few links). Be prepared to pay if you find him though - the initial search is free, but further detail costs.

How old is your son? If he's a minor, someone wisely suggested Myspace. If he's an adult, running his name through Google might yield results, and so might white pages. If he's possibly a college student, the Myspace equivalent is Facepage (I think that's what it's called.) Good luck.
