look on the bottle and check how many grams of sugar are in it. I believe gatorade is higher in sugar. gatorade, however, doesn't just have sugar added. it is for balancing your electrolytes, especially if you've been sweating.

Gatorade has maybe around the same amount of sugar as soda-pop if you are looking at the size of a can, but - BUT when are you drinking a can-size amount of Gatorade? I always drive a 20oz-32oz (which is a lot more than a can, and so a bottle of Gatorade is going to probably have more sugar than than the can of coke). Oh and my teeth start to hurt sometimes after drinking Gatorade.

One 12 oz can of soda has 38 grams of sugar. One 12 oz serving of gatorade has 21 grams of sugar. In addition the sugar in gatorade comes from sucrose, i.e. actual sugar, not high fructose corn syrup, which doesn nasty things to your body. Even more, gatorade contains other things your body needs such as electrolytes and trace elements. Soda contains nothing good for you. All that said, gatorade still should not be your primary drink. It is designed to replace nutrients you lose while working out. It is a great drink during and after a workout, but otherwise you lose most of the benefits and it becomes empty calories just like soda. Water should really be your primary drink, but if you must drink something flavored, gatorade is probably one of the best options.

Well, when you sweat, your body loses things like sodium and gatorade helps to replenish that. So, if you're doing long and intense exercise sessions it would be a pretty good drink to have. If you're not exercising then that means you're consuming more sodium when you drink gatorade. One thing about sodium is that it goes with water in your body. So, when you're full of it, then your kidneys will filter out the excess sodium with water and you'll basically urinate it out. Too much of a good thing can sometimes be a bad thing. So, it isn't really a good idea neither is it a bad idea unless you have a health condition that would make either.

it has about the same amount of sugar but it is better for you than pop. Gatorade rehydrates you and replaces the things you need for energy
