can someone explain what it means by when they say a woman should not wear the apparel of a man?

i haven't worn pants for 11 years now and i'm 21 all my life they have been preaching this at my church and i would just like to know how you interpret this

Yes. It also says you shouldn't mix fibers. So you need to get rid of those cotton/polyester blends you have.

But I read your other question about cheap lipstick? So it's ok to wear cheap lipstick but not pants to church? I'm just playin. :)

You know that verse about the women not wearing man's apparel is from Old Testament Law, and Christians aren't bound by those.

See the Old Testament says things about how you were to treat your slaves decently. But in the New Testament, Apostle Paul recommended, gently to let your slaves free and treat them as brothers (book of Philemon.) The Old Testament was the way God gradually weaned a very cruel world away from a system where slaves and women had no rights at all, culminating in Jesus' shocking message to Love Your Enemies. I have no idea how the "pants law" fit into that whole scheme, but again, you aren't under the Law if you belong to Jesus.

The 2 greatest commandments are to love God and love one another. Now me (female), I wear pants to church and long johns underneath too when it's cold. But if I were going to a church where there were some older women who might be really shocked and offended to see a woman in pants, I'd wear a long woolen skirt with longjohns underneath to stay warm.

I'd be warm, and I'd have a warm heart to those older ladies, and they towards me. And we'd all praise God together.

It is very difficult to break the tradition of the church whether thay are right or wrong. SO be ready for a battle.
'Women wearing wearing mens dress' it all depends on what you mean by what is mens dress. In certain cultures women do wear pant like dress( example India's 'Salwar suit' is a loose pant with a long froke like top that most women wear). And at the same time in many culture men wear skirt like dress, mainly the Muslim in many Eastern countries like India, Bangladesh,Pakistan, Indonesia,Malaysia and on and on....
If I am the Pastor/Priest in your church I would change the tradition.
So long as your dresses are modest you are free to wear pant.

The Bible says to be modest in dress. I do not think that there is anything wrong with pants , but if you were going to see the president would you were pants or a dress? I think it is more of a matter of respect. When we go before our heavenly Father at church we should dress for the occasion. Men also should wear a suit.

I don't think the idea is to ban women from wearing pants. I believe the idea was to say women shouldn't pass themselves off as men and vice versa.

Outside of the priesthood, the Bible has very little to say about clothing. the Bible does not ban pants for women. in ancient times pants were not commonly worn.

they didn't have pants, in those days. as for your church tell them the bible also says. we as people must change as the times do. you can also tell them, that as a person, you have a right to dress as you choose.As long as you have clothes on, then what differance does it make? And you may also say, did God not give us free will to do as we see fit within reason?

The only explanation I can think of is that a man should have his rule as the protector, and the woman hers, the care giver. Each has their rule in life, and that which they should keep! The Bible use a lot of parables.

This is a true story.
I bought my mom a nice pair of jeans, and when I asked her to try them on, she just went crazy, and started screaming. She refused to wear them, came down stairs in her slip. Refusing to wear them. It was all right for her to come down stairs in her under slip were a stranger was fixing something in the kitchen, than to wear the Jeans! I am not kidding.

if you take it literal it means not to wear men's clothes which at the time was a tunic which is a dress so as long as you wear clothing designed for women and not men you can wear pants same for men no women's jeans

That's in Deuteronomy 22, which according to most christians that's referred to as "the old laws". Supposedly, you don't have to adhere to the old laws after Jesus died for you. But what do I know, I'm just a former southern baptist turned atheist. But anyway, I knew the scripture ;o)

It simply means that women should not wear men's clothes, and men should not wear women's clothes, as defined by the fashion rules of a given time period and culture.
