I live in California. I just replied to another question and within my answer I used the word ' favorite '. When I clicked on spell check the word ' favorite ' was brought attention to and was given the spelling of ' favourite ' (with a ' u ' ) as a correction spelling choice. The choice of my own spelling was not in the list.
Is Yahoo Answers primarily a British based or originated site ? The British spelling of words uses the letter ' u ' more than American spelling.
And...yes, I do know that America is branched out from England and theirs is / was the original spelling of the english language and uses the letter ' u ' in words. Example...The English use spelling of ' colour ' with a ' u '. . . In the U.S.A. we spell that same word as ' color '. I'm really mostly asking here if Yahoo Answers is a British based / originated site.

You've somehow asked your question on the Australian answers site, thus the English spelling of favourite. Each country has it's own Answers but you can choose whether you look at all english speaking questions or just those where you live.

The no name and no picture issue is because of a bug or something like that where those that are using their 360 picture and 360 nickname shows as blanks. I found out a couple of hours ago and went and changed my settings. Apparently it has been going on for days and it's not all that has noticed it.
To answer your question;
Are you sure that you are using the American Yahoo? I use American Yahoo because the Swedish part of Yahoo is mostly a skeleton, and my spell check does not mark the words that you point to.

I know that I'm not answering your question or helping, I just thought that you might find his interesting and informative. Regarding your statement that the British spelling of words is the original. You are half right,as obviously it preceeded the American spelling, but original.....no. Check out the llink if you. like. At times, the original "American" scholars, who were actually Brits to begin with, started spelling words differently to differentiate themselves from their British heritage. The aforementioned words plus the 'z' words.
organise to organize....etc.

Yahoo is an American based site. Unless they have a locally based version like Yahoo 7, which is Australian. Australian Spelling is based on Proper English (British).

Interesting. I guess they do have a British spell check here then.
Still, I can't replicate it. I tried entering both:
favorite favourite
and yahoo spell check wants to change the second into the first.

You must've entered the UK version of Answers at some point and didn't realize it. Although, it's possible the code was mixed up somehow (the spell check java), but I haven't encountered such errors before myself.

on the bottom of the page, click on the US flag. that should take you to the American (default for everyone outside the UK) version of YA.
you should also verify the language preference in your browser. click on Tools>Options then find the language preferences and change it to US english.

When I typed in favorite, the spell checker didn't try to correct it. Maybe you're on Yahoo UK.

Their main office is shown as being Sunnyvale, CA, but I'm sure they have offices in many different countries.
