dvds deffintely haeva long life quality...
but heres a tip.. if u plan to use a movie dvd on a pc i.e a dvd rom ...then it is better that u dont run it on ur dvd PLAYER! very often....

playing movie dvd which have been frequenly played on a player ...dont run htat effectively when later run on a pc...
try to stick to only one device for a movie dvd either player or pc...

for data dvds the life is the same as a cd.. but its better if u store a double layer dvds away from direct sunlight and hot objects...as far as possible!!!!!!!! this is very impotant ...else u will start seein ur dvd getting nearly split into layers through the edge!

I would go with a panasonic DVD 5-disc player. Good quality, very durable. Ours is trouble free for 3-4 years .
