* I believe the natural causes are behind the global warming, as by watching some programs nowadays transmitted on UKTV history channel, showing :-
1- That the temperature of the sun is increasing, which leads to the earth receiving more heat than before, leading to its warming.
2- The earth was passing through different ages (ice age, water age) & the natural changes still continuing to occur.
* so not the fumes from my , your car & the air flight, which I have to pay £40 (increase in tax/UK), as by paying that will not sort the matter out!
* man made CO2 might come by chance of the existing natural warming (the timing of it).
* But man made CO2 consists an easy excuse for the governments to rob their citizens! What a shame.

The IPCC scientists considered all your explanations and many more. They looked at all the available data (2500 people can do that). And they still concluded we're the main cause.

The 21 page summary is available online. It shows the exact value for increased solar radiation, and that it does not explain most of the warming. The 1600 page full report will discuss that in great detail. And all the other natural possibilities.

The full IPCC report will be available in a few weeks. It will cost money, it's 1600 pages. But someone will put it up online at some point.

The IPCC report is the biggest scientific paper ever, with the most data, the most authors, and the most peer review, in the history of science. It is the very pinnacle of hard scientific research. The last paper to hold that title was the last IPCC report in 2001. You can look at that one here.

Science does not get any more solid than this. The debate over whether global warming is real and caused by us is over. Yes and yes. These people know that.

"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."

James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.

"The overwhelming majority of atmospheric scientists around the world and our own National Academy of Sciences are in essential agreement on the facts of global warming and the significant contribution of human activity to that trend."

Russell E. Train, former environmental official under Presidents Nixon and Ford

"We simply must do everything we can in our power to slow down global warming before it is too late. The science is clear. The global warming debate is over."

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican, Governor, California

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

John McCain, Republican, Senator, Arizona

"These technologies will help us become better stewards of the environment - and they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global climate change."

President George Bush

Given the recent widespread coverage and resurgence of concern regarding global warming I am simply shocked at how ill-informed some people still are. The debate over who is to blame is over - WE ARE.

If you don't believe this then yes you can plough through the IPCC report, but it does not contain global dimming and is therefore already out of date and presents optimistic data under estimating our climates sensitivity to carbon.

Rather than apply any serious effort towards getting informed and reading stuff about it (like you usually do), why not sit on your fat, ignorant **** and watch TV instead. Two programmes will fill you in on all the important stuff that's been going on in the last 20 years in this area of scientific research. Then go crap yourself.

Your comfy, cosy existence is now hereby served noticed of termination. Our lease on planet earth is about to be cancelled unless we start looking after the place; and that means you too - ASSHOLE.

I agree with you. Global Warming is being caused by a combination of factors.

Despite what people think they know, the debate is far from over. - 'Bob', above, please note! He quotes the IPCC's report as though it were infallible. It isn't. There were plenty of mistakes in the 2001 report. Take a look at the following link... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/11/05/nwarm05.xml&page=1

And be sure to also read the references in the link near the top of page one - especially regarding the IPCC's defective "hockey-stick" graph, which amounts to nothing less than a blatant lie.

Oh, and I was most amused by 'Bob's quotes from businessmen, senators and even Arnold Schwarzenegger! Woohoo! Well, that's me convinced then! LOL

People are forever exaggerating the truth to try and scare others into believing in global warming. Take 'ZZ9', above, for example...

"Now [CO2 levels] are at nearly 500 parts per million and rising sharply. Scientific FACT."

Er? Actually *not* scientific fact. Even the IPCC, who tend to exaggerate things, are only saying 379ppm, so 'ZZ9' has exaggerated by over 30%.

He also says...

"...a change of just a FEW degrees overall will have catastrophic effects..."

Classic scare-mongering. There will be no "catastrophic" effects from global warming. It was up to 3°C warmer than today during the medieval warm period, and far from just "surviving", we *flourished*!

Finally, 'ZZ9' tells us...

"The time of consequences is upon us and it WILL happen in YOUR lifetime."

Well, he may have a point. Frankly, I'm *barely* surviving global warming. In fact, I expect I'll be dead because of it by tomorrow.

Oh no, wait! Actually, despite the fact that the current bout of global warming has been going on for over 100 years, and the global warming alarmists have been trying to scare us for at least the last 20 or so, I haven't noticed anything that scares me in the least! How can that possibly be?

Because the global warming alarmists are just scare-mongering, the “facts” are exaggerated, and it's entirely possible that global warming won't cause us any major problems at all!

I believe that the Earth has gone through several cycles of warming and cooling. There could not have a couple of ice ages without a cooresponding "warming" age.. the report published in France last week says that the warming trend is a fact. The report also states that there is noting we can do about the warming, cutting emmissions will do nothing. The report predicts that in 100 years the avarage teperature of the earth will be between 3 and 7 degrees warmer. While I will never live to see it that does not sound all that bad....

Lots of factors are at play here but the bottom line is that the Earths climate is changing.
In the past 650,000 years ice core samples show a steady and even up and down pattern in CO2 levels in our atmosphere roughly between 200 and NEVER above 300 parts per million. Now they are at nearly 500 parts per million and rising sharply. Scientific FACT. It's no coincidence. That sharp rise is due to US.
What everyone fails to realise is that a change of just a FEW degrees overall will have catastrophic effects on the planets' ability to harbour the current ecology of our planet. MASSIVE changes will be the result.
The time of consequences is upon us and it WILL happen in YOUR lifetime.

I personally think you are getting too bogged down with explanations for the various factors that when added up mean global warming.
.
What is behind global warming is quite simple...IT IS US.
.
We overconsume the finite resources available to us on this planet. We callously and self centredly consume without any thought for tomorrow and the day after and so on. You could say it is HUMAN GREED.
.
Knowing this means that the solution is in our own hands. It depends if we can all just get over our own egos and inability to realise that WE have created the global mess that we are now living in. We are responsible and no-one else. Once that consensus is reached, and only then, can we begin reversing the damages done and rehabilitating this planet that we rely on to exist.
.
See.....not so complex, is it??

Well....you have your head buried quite deep in the sand!

If you understood about systems, even a little, you would understand that the earth functions like one and is more or less in a fine balance. If you throw destabilising factors into it then the system crashes!....that's where we, humans, come in. We treat the world like it belongs to us and we can do whatever with it without consequences.

If you crash your car into a wall...does it look like nothing happened?

I think it's just that the planet is ageing. We're coming to the end of a very long ice age. Man has just sped it up a bit with all the cr*p in the atmos.

About 90% of scientists who study these things for a living disagree with your theories.

Can you please edit your question and expand on the "governments to rob their citizens" part? eg: Where does the govt make money on telling car manufacturer's to make their cars get better gas mileage?

Peace...
