I had a cousin who ended up vomiting on the table during his food battles with his family. He ended up a cocaine addict and can't function to save his life. Oh, his mom was an alcoholic and his dad died when he was 4, so I'm sure he had lots of problems, but the family focused since he was young on his abnormal reaction to food and his mother's inability to get him straightened out.
How long has this been going on for your son? My sons, like me, are very picky eaters, and only like a few things. But. over the past few years, they've been trying and liking more and more foods. Maybe because we didn't force them, or maybe because their tastes developed.
Is he wretching because he wants to prove to you that he doesn't like this stuff, or does he have some sensitivity being provoked by the food?
Have you ever read Bread and Jam for Frances? A wonderful book from when I was a child. The little girl only wants bread and jam and so that's what the mom starts giving her for every meal and snack, while the rest of the family eats wonderful meals. The parents don't pick on Frances, oh no. They let her know they respect her choices. They enjoy the other food themselves, but keep giving Frances bread and jam with a smile on their faces.
She got tired of bread and jam and asked for more food.
Does he take vitamins? That should be good for the short term, reliving nutrition worries.

I tell my children if you wont eat what is on the table then dont eat. Dont cater to them, especially at 9. When he is hungry enough he will eat. Your just teaching him that if he throws a fit, he will get what he wants. I bet he doesnt only eat nuggets and sausage at school, he eats what is served or he doesnt eat at all.

Don't worry to much ,for about a year my daughter would only eat fried chicken and mashed potatoes, she was 3 at the time. Her doctor said she would be fine their bodies sometimes crave certain foods, just to be sure i gave her daily vitamins. He was right , she is now 23 and very healthy

Be a parent and not his friend. Don't let him chose what he eats, if he crys then don't give in and give him what he wants. You don't want your child growing up thinking he can get his way just by throwing a tantrum. Start now and put your foot down.
