I was thinking about petfinder but I'm not sure. You know, the message boards! Anyways, only because you can search by state and it would be good if someone in driving distance got him, maybe I could even check in on my cockatiel after adoption to see how he is doing. And please do not say "oh, i'll take him" because I don't want people who live far away to get him!

I think he will probably be listed around $60.00 or something, he is not sick but does have feathers missing, its sad because I'm allergic :(

Petfinder is a good idea. Make sure you ask for an adoption fee though so you know the person is serious. Craigslist.com is a good place too.

Locate an avian vet in your area and find out if anyone is looking to adopt your bird. That's the best route to go.Often times people think birds are cool(which they are)but do not realize that they do require some amount of upkeep. If they are lazy, then the bird suffers with improper feeding and dirty cages.Let your vet help you.Perhaps you could go to the vet's office and put an ad on their bulletin board. It's better than putting up a random ad anywhere. This way, bird lovers will see it.By the way, have you lived with your bird long?I devoleped an allergy to my two cockatiels at first, and when my body adjusted,it subsided significantly.Don't be too hasty.Your bird needs a caring person to care for him,and you sound like a good owner.Good Luck.Let me know how you made out.

I'm not sure where you're located, but http://www.mickaboo.com takes great care of the birds they have and they have strict requirements of bird experience and responsibility for potential adopters. Petfinder would be good, too, but make sure you're doing hardcore screening of the people who approach you and that you know you're good, responsible people who can handle the needs of small parrots, especially since he's missing some feathers, he may have a deficiency or a behavioural issue that needs dealing with.

I agree that calling an avian vet and talking to them would be a good option. They could also recommend you to an avian rescue or a shelter that deals well with birds.

Oh, and if you still want to visit him, you'll want to make sure that's okay with the family that's going to take him - and a good family would more than welcome you into their home to visit your bird.

Definitely avoid places like craigslist.com and freecycle.com because those are typically idiot-filled sites.

If you are unable to place him elsewhere you can check with your local shelter.
