yes. Its a business Faux-pas. Unless you are in a very very comfortable career where they are not going to mind one on your hand get it somewhere else. It will affect your employabilitiy from then on because people are schmucks and dont like seeing tattoos in certain jobs.
There is no difference physically tattooing your hand than any other part of your body. The palm cannot be tattooed simply because the skin wont hold ink. the same goes for the knuckles, very few people can keep the ink because of the thickness of skin. The type of skin on your hands is not good at holding colour and because of the thickness is hard to get the ink in deep enough.

goodness me- what a lot of questions!! lets go one at a time! If the ink runs and its a light colour, you have a touch up- if its black or green or dark then its not so easy to cover. It hurts more than anywhere else I've ever had tattooed but still not enough that i couldn't bare it. It kinda matters if they're red, means they haven't stopped healing- you really should wait for them to silver out (go white)- the raised bit isn't so much the problem. Your tattooist has most probably seen a lot stranger things than an arm with some scars hun! The tatt sound really cool- depends on your scars really. if you have lots of thinnish lines from cuts then not such a problem, but any larger patches of scar tissue might be. The scar tissue doesn't really take fine line work/ detail too well as it does bleed a tiny bit in the very best ones, and i mean tiny but enough to maybe blend two close fine lines. I'd really suggest you go see an artist or two and get some proper opinions- and advice. I hope it all works out and you love your ink when its done.

None at all provided the tattooing needles are sterile. If you watch the tattooist insert the needles in the gun, they should break them out of a sealed, sterile pack.
Bear in mind that tattoos on the hand are going to hurt - it always does when the bone is so close to the skin.

make sure you go to an established place that has been there a while...and they are up to date on sterilizing instuments....try to go to someone who is experienced...especially in doing tattoos on all areas of the body. if you do this...you will be fine. most places are inspected and infections are not that common anymore. it will be a little more sensitive in that area...because of the nerves and tendons in the hand. good luck

it's not harmful besides the pain of getting it done. just make sure you go to a professional so you have a sterile needle otherwise you could catch a disease.
